There have been two OPs and probably more referring to this.

I've searched the full text of the transcript of the Bozeman Town Hall and see nothing like that.

I've asked for the context in those two OPs without reply. (typical)

I don't think it's helpful to write an OP of that nature and not to also provide context or proof of the assertion.

Here is a link to the text of the Bozeman Event:

Thanks in advance to whomever can find whatever this drama is about.

NB, I have some errands but will be back.

1. No single payer
is what was said. Public option yes.

2. Thank you. Apparently, some think that the terms are interchangeable.
I won't post to the OPs, but it's pretty careless to say the president is willing to trash the public option.

And he never said he wanted single payer, so the whole thing is pathetic.

I wish posters could include links to their assertions, and not just links to other posts or blogs or articles.

Have a terrific day. :-)

5. A real public option would be giving people the right to opt for Medicare
but that is not what we are going to get.

3. It's right there in your link scattered in bits and pieces.

To boil it down. Medicare and Medicaid are government run programs they are going to try to cut the waste out of but nothing was said about the criteria to get it. People who can't afford to BUY health insurance will get some government help to select a health insurance plan they can BUY. Nowhere is it said that we who don't want private insurance and can afford it will be able to buy into Medicare or Medicaid, which would be the true public option. So from what I understood there is no public option available to everyone who wants it. So much for universality.

6. You cannot simply make up a policy
and then say Obama opposed it. That is insanity.

You cannot decide the public option equals medicaid or medicare, which absolutely NOBODY has proposed in any legislation, and then say Obama opposes the public option because he opposes your bullshit concoction.

Why do you do that?

8. You have make up your mind and cannot even read what he says without
comprehending it. I could go line by line but I'm sure what you read into it will not be what he said. Simply, right now unless there is a big shift, the public option will be nothing more than govt. subsidies to buy insurance, which is exactly what he said. There is no ambiguity there. Medicare and Medicaid may get some tweaks but will only be available to the same demography they have always been available. I mean it's not rocket science.

11. If it is true that one " cannot even read what he says without comprehending it"
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 06:59 PM by karynnj
that means he is exceptionally clear.

I actually do NOT get to your conclusion. The subsidies to purchase insurance let you buy any type of insurance available - which may include a public plan. The fact is that although the public option could be Medicare/Medicaid that is not what was in any of the plans as the public option.

7. OK, then he didn't say anything like that. Thanks.
I see, but do not agree with, your construction of meaning from what was said and what was not said and what your personal opinions may be.

But it's wrong to say that Obama has stated that particular thing.

10. He's making strong arguments for a public option as we speak.
Reports of Obama abandoning a public option are false.
