The thing I enjoyed the most about today's Town Hall ...
Obama fitted Max Baucus with cement boots and dumped him into the sea of health reform!

"Max and I want ..."

"Max and I believe ..."

"What Max has been trying to do ..."

Hey Max ... now you have no choice but to get it done on Obama's terms.

20. LOL!
Honestly, that's not what I meant. I'm from NJ, so was going for the "Sopranos" thing ... but it works for Chicago politics, too!

2. I noticed that too...
"Lets give a big round of applause to Max Baucus, because he's working hard day and night to make sure you get health care reform... RIGHT MAX?!!!"

He put him on the spot in the most public way possible, right in front of all his constituents. Blue Cross Baucus will make himself look like a total asshole if he keeps slow-walking the health care bill.

3. Those remarks about Baucus were 99% of the reason he went to Montana
the other 1% involved taking the kids to some great national parks.

17. He stuck it in Max's face and got a chance to see one of the most beautiful places on earth...
I was just through there last month. Now to Grand Junction.

6. Notice Obama did the same thing to Grassley.
Edited on Fri Aug-14-09 05:37 PM by backscatter712
He complimented the GOPers in the Gang of Six, and singled out Grassley a couple of times for "working hard in the spirit of bipartisanship" and so on.

Then Grassley turned around and bragged about road-blocking the health care bill.

Obama may have come across as looking a little naive because of this. He's not. He may have looked like he'd been suckered, but the truth is that Obama knows perfectly well how these exchanges work.

Grassley, OTOH, now looks like a sociopathic, two-faced lying asshole, and that was the point of Obama's remarks. Mark my words, this will bite him in the ass hard!

Grassley thought he was hurting Obama, but he only landed a minor blow. In the process, he really fucked himself.

I do believe that Max Baucus knows better than to fall into the same trap Grassley did - he's gonna have to have the Finance committee crap out their bill soon.

8. doubt it ...
the Repugniconvict followers/worshippers are so out of touch with reality, they believe that, if Obama is willing to lie about not being a citizen, and being a Muslin, then he'd lie about "honest and good" Republicans ...

11. That's alright, they can keep singing that tune in 2010...
The GOP's losing what's left of mainstream support, and if they keep acting like assholes, they'll lose another five seats in the Senate, be reduced to a Southern rump party, and be truly powerless.

14. I ain't putting money on that bet ...
If you recall, in November 2002, the Democratic party was declared dead, just waiting for the body to quit twitching.

And yet, the Dems came back ... albeit without the help of the "liberal media" ... the "liberal media" finally couldn't polish the Bush turd any more once the population saw Bush behind the curtain during the Katrina fiasco.

The Repugniconvicts have the slobbering media (which Beck or whomever believes is fawning over Obama) which will once again manage to do nothing but shut down any Dem accomplishment ... note: The Birthers were given a voice where they should have been laughed off the phone, the Town Hall Screamers are being given the chance to appear (note: appear) calm and rational outside the town halls ...

But instead of giving any time to proponents of single-payer or a public option, the media's more than happy to have the batshit flinging everywhere ...

7. He's good.
I liked seeing Gov Schweitzer's face in the background when Obama got one of those questions from the cable "news" watchers.

Did anyone notice Senator Tester biting his nail? He was oblivious to anything but that.

13. Plastic smile on his face the whole way.
You could tell it was a fake smile - Baucus knew he was being pwned by Obama, but knew that in order to retain what credibility he had left, he had to smile and take it!

Noticed the fake grin and handshake also, and that President Obama seemed more friendly with the governor and junior senator.

Sweitzer is a true Progressive. I hope that Max saw today that his constituents aren't the health care companies.

21. Not just a fake smile
Edited on Fri Aug-14-09 07:26 PM by BattyDem
It was one of those "Oh, shit!" smiles that occur when a person knows they're in the process of being pwned and realizes they can't do a damn thing to stop it!

edited to add this:
