Claire has been a HUGE disappointment and she will not get another dime of my money. My vote perhaps if she is the nominee, but she comes under the heading of "with friends like this........?"

5. Rachel Maddow just debunked Senator McCaskill's bolded statement on her show today.
She showed how all these groups organizing these town hall protests are funded by rich, right-wing, corporate interests and the health insurance industry.

Not a single "middle-class" person heads any of the groups.

11. However, when Senator McCaskill is claiming the protests aren't "manufactured" by the right-wing she
is clearly wrong.

These people, who often don't even live in the area they protest in, are bussed in and organized by these rich, corporate, lobbying groups.

They aren't like that Nebraska restauranteur she had on her show.

9. There are many on the right that do not like what they think the health care reform represents.
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 12:28 AM by RandomThoughts
The reason the stakes are so high, is if health care ends up being good, not only are the Democrats correct again, but the entire machine that lied to them will again be revealed as having done that.

There are plenty of things in the plan people will like, things they don't even know are in the plan because they watch certain news channels.

If you think the fervor is bad now, if a public option does not compete with the insurance companies, any bill passed will be made to look terrible by insurance monopolies jacking the price up and blaming the bill. And if you think they will play nice and not do that if they get concessions, you haven't been paying attention.

Let me say that again, if there is not a system that competes with their ability to set price, they will make the reform look bad by monopoly control over how it is ran, until they can get people in office that will repeal it.

This is not about health care to them, it is about total economic control! And control over an entire nation!

What ever control they have they will use to try and hold control, especially if it makes money while they do it.

13. I think she's in for a rude awakening
if she thinks these paid disrupters are going to be polite and civil. The ones doing the shout-downs are not "showing concern" over the healthcare proposals. They are shouting threats and accusations based on deliberate distortions of those proposals.

17. She's TECHNICALLY right.
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 04:07 AM by Meldread
Notice the word I used: TECHNICALLY.

These people that show up, they are ditto heads. They are mostly retired folks it seems, who most likely sit home all day listening to Fox and the like. They are being whipped into a frenzy by them, and being organized and directed by various conservative groups.

No, their anger isn't manufactured. They're just people who have been manipulated, lied too, and then organized by the right to disrupt meetings.

As of yet, I have not heard any one being paid to disrupt the town halls, so I would assume that those doing it actually believe the crap the right is feeding them.

In my opinion, this actually makes the situation worse and more dangerous.

EDIT: I just wanted to point out that while she may technically be right, her statement leaves a false impression. It makes anyone who reads it come to the conclusion that they are not being organized. They are. That has been proven, and she is making the same argument Joe Scarborough uses. She points out that the anger is real (it is – it is a result of lies and manipulation by the right), but then does not say if she believes they are being organized to disrupt town hall events. Thus, the false impression.

25. Spot On!
Meldread, you are paying attention. If everyone would turn on
Sean Hannity for 5 minutes once in a while it would be
apparent the hostility and anger he is provoking on this issue
and this issue alone. He says this is the single most
important issue that will destroy our nation. If there was
ever a time to act it is now. It is not being funded by the
RNC. It is trust funders, retired, corporate white people
following their marching orders from Hate Radio!!

26. I agree
She is also most likely very aware of who the main organizer is in her area, and what kind of following that person has.

Dana Loesch is who I'm talking about, because she has a folksy, down-to-earth, "see I'm just a mom like you" blog, it gives the impression that she's just a mom who is fed up with the direction the country is taking.

When the truth is, she's a right-wing radio pundit and journalist, who just last week was very prominently featured on FoxNews with Greta. Despite that fact, the people who hang on Dana's every word really do believe she's not in it for fame and money. Ha!

Remember, these are the same type of people who also think that about Glenn Beck.

18. Gee Claire, it would be nice if you would pull your head out of the place where the sun don't shine
Maybe you should have seen the Rachel Madow or Ed Schultz show today. Someone incited that crowd, and they were not their to discuss the issues. They were there to disrupt the meeting

There have been threats of violence, along with death threats. This is not a question of bad manners, it is a very serious situation

Everyday you have right wing hate radio and television inciting people to sedition against the current administration.

This isn't about first ammenment rights either, when you have media 24/7 giving a forum that Obama wasn't born in the U.S., or giving free reign to idiots that say Obama is a racist, and will take your guns away, or is planning internment camps, via Minnesota's bachman, and you think it is just mater of bad manners, you better think again Claire

conservative side and these people do not represent a majority. And its being organized by high level GOP/Conservative operatives. I think she is being very naive or being very calculating being from Missouri (trying to hold onto her job in a purplish state).

37. I agree 100%. First the Teabaggers now this...
...when was the last time a protest from the left was given this much coverage?

What the hell do we have to do? Smash windows and burn cars in the street? Create a riot? That seems to be the only way to get the media's attention, and the only thing they'd do is point out, "Wow, those radical leftists are out of control again!"

Sigh. It's so disappointing, but we should be taking notes. Two can play at this game. We should begin assaults on Republican congressmen, using the same exact tactics, demanding to know why they want to block healthcare reform, and why they are "letting people die!"

38. I'm disappointed in the crap from all sides
We don't even have a final bill yet but people are protesting what they think will be in it vs what will actually be voted on. Likewise, representatives are defending specifics in a piece of legislation that hasn't had a vote in the house and come out of finance committee in the Senate. I have a feeling that by the time this comes out of conference, everyone is going to be pissed off.

44. I've seen a video excerpt from ONE townhall that might not have been astroturfed
(Gene Green's in North Houston) and the reason I think it may have been genuine is that the attendees were actually listening, asking questions, waiting their turn to be called on, and letting Green speak. Citizens present concerns and want their questions addressed. Paid shills just want to cause chaos. By their acts ye shall know them.
