Budweiser and Blue Moon - Just In Case You Were Wondering What They Would Drink
The choice of beers is in. President Obama is drinking a Bud. Officer Crowley is drinking the Blue Moon. Personally, I would have thought that President Obama would drink a smaller brewer to emphasize entrepreneurship, but hey, its just beer. Still, I am sure someone will develop and angle for further outrage.

1. Oh Wait! The WH Press Conference Is Criticizing The Choice Of Bud!!!
Seriously! Gibbs is saying that the President drank a Bud at the All-Star game, and asked what is wrong with Budweiser.

Schlafly is better, but try getting anything but a Bud in Busch stadium.

3. Still Brewed In The U.S. and It Employs Thousands Of U.S. Workers
Also, it is one of the most widely drunk beers in the U.S. My family is mostly partial to Miller, and I can tell you that they have no idea who currently owns it, and the ownership of Miller plays no role in their choice.

16. Sam Adams (160) Has More Calories Than Budweiser (145)
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 02:20 PM by TomCADem
Sam Adams Boston Lager has 160 calories. Budweiser has 145 calories. Also, many microbrews may taste great, but they aren't less filling. Now, Rolling Rock is one of the lightest at 120 calories.

My take is look at the President. Does he look like he drinks a heavy beer?

15. My family once took me on a tour of the local Budweiser plant near Fort Collins.
We got to see the brewery itself, and we saw the Clydesdales.

Well, now we know why the Clydesdales are so big - they have to make a lot of beer...

34. Thank God he didn't - I was worried about that --
Blue Moon may dangerously skirt the edge, or even step over the line (but not by much) into arugula-latte territory. But they dodged a bullet on this one. There were so many here at least (and on this very thread as well) who wanted him to serve some "microbrew" ( :puke: ) ---

Gatesgate would have gained new legs as Beergate...

Thankfully, DU doesn't run the Obama Administration. He'd be a one-term President if we did.

I'm Just Sayin'

Thank GOD DU doesn't run the Obama administration -- if it did, not only would Obama be a one-term President, but even the Democratic Party itself would end up seeming as privileged, out-of-touch and permanently irrelevant as the House of Bourbon.

20. LOL! A thread that mentions Budweiser and hardly a bad word because Obama is going to drink it.
Normally, a beer thread with the word Budweiser in the OP would bring a hundred negative comments, maybe more. I only saw one really negative one here. Go figure.

Knowing that, I'm going to post an OP that says "President Obama Favors Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Over Foreign Makes!"

35. Whatever would make you think that someone's opinion about what my President should drink
would make me happy?

I just thought it was funny that if a thread mentioning Budweiser had been posted ten days ago, it would have been inundated with posts to the effect that drinking Budweiser was like having sex in a canoe: Fucking Close to Water.

That didn't happen today, and any reasonable DUer would surmise that it was because it's Obama's beer of choice. I guess you missed UhUmOh's response to the question during today's press briefing...

I am a big fan of menudo though, I've heard it cures what ales ya. I've often been told I'm a "stout" person, although I think of myself as a little chubby. I DO love In & Out malts! Vanilla for me, thanks. When I was a kid, I wanted to chop down trees for a living. So much adventure in being a lager!

36. There is no accounting for taste.
You sound like my Pop. If he doesn't like the TV show, you're an ass for watching it. You also sound like every DUer who hates golf, NASCAR, American Idol, and The History Channel.

I brew my own beer, usually by culturing the yeast of the ones I like. You should taste my Lounge Lizard Ale. As good or better than Sierra Nevada, but with a higher alcohol content. All the taste, and more bang for your buck.

I was thinking of sending a six-pack to the White House.

Given the President's svelte figure, I'm not sure I could count on him to match the professor and the policeman (both big-drinking professions) drink for drink.

We have real beer, and real brewers, in the US.

Next time O's in Oregon, we have an insane amount of actual beer here.

Budweiser?

Why not just get a glass of water and light some money on fire, drop it in the glass, and drink that?

49. No apology needed.
I was thinking of two ones, being lit in bars, for a two-dollar generic, over a three dollar micro brew.

I am guilty of lighting money in bars to make a point. Having been homeless for two periods, totaling three years, I think it's an interesting thing to watch, and think about.

Not all snobs (if I am one now) have had an easy ride.
