After all, they're looking out for me.

2. Are you in your home when they ask?
Are they insisting you step outside your own home?

I agree merchants asking for ID when I make a purchase with check or card. I would be pretty nasty to a cop at my door not returning the favor of providing identification.

Hell, no officer is getting in the front door without providing ID or a warrant.

5. Like when I shop online? No, but they ask me for the number on the back of the card.
But how did Dr. Gates get into this discussion?

3. How do you feel when the 5 people before you they don't bother to ask
and then ask you for a second piece of ID and your phone number.

Then they call the manager and he carefully looks at you from top to bottom.

And then they put on a fake smile and decide that they will take a risk and take your card.

As you leave you can hear them say to the person behind you, "Sorry for the delay".

Now do you get it?

7. Actually, that makes me feel even better.
It means I must be spending a lot of money that day. I feel like nobody when I'm in Vegas and people don't even blink when you bring a hundred into Denny's.

8. What about when you buy shoes at Payless and they ask for your phone number?
I tell them to go fuck themselves. I'd better be more careful though; might get arrested for it. ;-)

9. That's for market surveys. Radioshack does the same thing. Yes, it's irritating, but not worth
telling them to "go fuck themselves."

Simple as that, and I say so to them.

12. Why not? They don't need my phone number.
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 10:21 PM by Avalux
And the 3 or 4 people in line behind me don't need it either. :hi:

(I don't really say "fuck you" - I want to, but I usually tell them I don't give out my number).

14. One day, a neighbor couldn't find her kid.
She called the cops and claimed he was at my sister's house playing with my nephew. The cops shoved their way into the door and were total assholes. She let them search her house, but they were very rude and accused her of hiding the kid when he obviously was not anywhere in her apartment. She finally had enough and had the audacity to let the cops know she wasn't pleased with their accusations or their manner. That was when they threatened to arrest her. The neighbor found her kid playing outside. No apologies from the cops for being assholes, because they felt they had a right to behave like brownshirt facists. It is tiring reading of cops shooting people in the backs and tasering kids and old ladies, or, as I read in the news yesterday, forcing a female motorist to give a blow job while holding a gun to her head. And they wonder why some view them with suspicion bordering on disgust. I used to be horrified whenever I heard the word, 'Pig' growing up, but truthfully, I really don't care for a lot of cops.

15. One time I bought a new lock from a locksmith shop to install on my front door.
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 10:26 PM by Towlie
It was an expensive lock. I charged it. When the girl asked for my ID, I held it up with my address covered and just let her see my picture and name. She was offended.

She Just Didn't Get It.

18. Not in this world
This is a different world.

The downtrodden are always in the right.

Cops are always bigger assholes than professors. Professors are veritable lambs of society, with a humility and gentleness much akin to physicians and celebrities.

Screaming at police officers in public after being warned that arrest is pending if it doesn't stop is one's inalienable right.

Accusing people of racism shouldn't be considered any sort of escalation.
