Politico investigates... Drinking in the Obama White House!
What and when President Obama likes to drink

Wine and beer were served at the recent luau for members of Congress and their families and on the Fourth of July, guests say, but the president himself — who is said to have a stocked wine cellar back home in Chicago — appears to be conscious about drinking alcohol at his new office/home.

At a Super Bowl party earlier this year, Obama tended to a plate of cookies while he chatted up guests and left it to others to down the beer. Attendees say they can’t remember Obama taking even a sip of a beverage.

And no cocktails for POTUS at the regular White House cocktail party.

“I don’t even remember him drinking a glass of water,” one attendee says.

White House aides say Obama indulged in a celebratory glass of wine at Blair House, across the street from the White House, just days before his Inauguration, but they can’t remember a similar moment since.

Drinking is not an uncommon thing for presidents, historians say. Franklin D. Roosevelt had a thing for martinis. Richard Nixon loved Château Margaux. Lyndon Johnson preferred scotch.

“Drinking was part of the Washington culture,” says Julian Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University. “It was pretty common, and it didn’t raise any eyebrows.”

Zelizer says drinking became less accepted during President Jimmy Carter’s administration in the 1970s. “Carter brought a piety to the White House,” he says. “He emphasized his personal morality.”

Bush was the same way, Zelizer says, in that he explained his struggles with drinking and why he had given up alcohol years before.

Obama himself admitted to having “made some bad decisions” in his youth when it came to drinking.

1. well....
He knows that if he had a glass of wine, Politico would prattle on endlessly about it. Yet Politico was oddly silent about the rumors around DC that Bush was boozing again...not a word.

in my mind. One sees so many things on DU..I guess it didn't make that big of an impression on me.

<<Snips from the OP's article..>>>>

"After Obama was seen with beer in hand at the Wizards game, callers lit up the lines at WWL, a sports radio station in Louisiana, according to the station’s website.

“People are losing 5, 10, 20,000 dollars a day in the stock market, and he’s sitting there drinking a beer,” one caller said. “It’s insulting. There’s a lot of people suffering.”

Another caller complained, “The president is the president 24 hours a day. I don’t think he should drink on the job.”

"Louisiana" for crying out loud?!

32. Oh geez
How pathetic can they get? I'm quite sure they wouldn't make the same complaints about a white, republican president. They just look for any reason to criticize Obama.

And, some on here begrudged him of that.

Fortunately, they don't run things..some of us like seeing the Pres out enjoying himself at a game with a brewski ..hangin' out in the announcer's booth.}( Maybe throwing the first pitch:)

18. They don't care about that...but
the rest of the country did..because that's when Americans started waking up and bush's manufactured and manipulated numbers(courtesy of corporatemediawhoresofAmerica) went down.

Nah, these Louisana callers are on Obama patrol now and he better not even take a sip of beer or they'll call the station and raising holey hypocritical hell.
