The people who got the last bailout were the ones who caused the problem.

I'd personally call for further bailout funds to go to

1)Workers in closed factories to re-open those factories under worker managment and ownership

2)Cultural work. The revival of the country's fortunes requires a revival of the notion that culture, and cultural work(art, literature and music in all forms)is as important as profits for the wealthy.

3)The creation of new values-public transit(especially a revived passenger rail system and improved mass transit systems locally)people working on small alternative energy products that can provide models for new energy sources, and small business that preserves and revives the cultures of all of America's peoples.

These are my broadstroke ideas. Add yours.

The one thing we DO know is that the last bailout was NOT the way to go. The rich are the problem, not the solution.

13. The body text talks about stimulus,
and nobody is talking about another bailout, given that the first seems to have worked and there is no longer a collapsing credit crisis. On the other hand, some politicians are now talking about another stimulus. It seems you've confused the two.

What does that even mean?

Are you for real? This has to be an attempt at performance art.

5. Afro-centric, latino-centric and other such small cultural businesses in varous areas
Thus giving people in those communities the chance to have jobs without having to work at McDonald's and lose their identity and their soul.

Ok, I get it now. Pretty good, although sometimes your parody does go over the top.

10. Nothing I suggested there deserves your contempt
Cultural survival is as important as anything else. This is why Kemp's "Enterprise Zones" thing was wrong. It would have been solely about letting dittoheads from the 'burbs come in and impose their culture on everyone.

16. There's many non-McDonald's jobs where you can lose your identity and soul.
But I don't quite understand how you're defining Afro-centric or Latino-centric businesses. What are your criteria?

7. What part of the stimulus went specifically to the rich?
I guess one could argue that the AMT extension went to the "rich", but I'm looking through a list of the stimulus spending and tax cuts and I'm not seeing much of anything that goes to the wealthy.

19. I would actually like a second "bailout" be a state bailout. $300 billion to the states to pay down
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 04:32 PM by 4lbs
their debts.

Spread it by population. California would get about $30 billion, Alaska about $1 billion. One billion for each million people in population, with a minimum of $1 billion to a state.

$30 billion to the state of California would allow it to pay off it's $20 billion debt and stop issuing IOUs which the banks aren't accepting. They can also use the extra money to hire back the thousands laid off as well as get even more local state projects funded, which would hire even more people (like that high speed rail that's been languishing).

More people hired ---> stimulus!

Also has a positive effect on lowering unemployment.

This would also remove an excuse for the Republican Governors who are using stimulus money to pay down debts instead of funding projects that hire people.
