Sotomayor to be grilled by republicans over white firefighters..they have a problem
Apparently the republicans are going to go after her hard on this.. The ruling that favored minority firefighters (as the city asked by the way) over White and a Hispanic firefighter.

There is only one problem with this for the Republicans. Judge Sotomayor has a history or 17,000 cases. The largest ever for a perspective SCOTUS member.

In those 17,000.. she had a number of cases where she ruled on Affirmative Action and Minority Discrimination cases.

Judge Sotomayor ruled against the minority claimants over 80% of the time.

So this is my question for the Republicans.

Why are you focusing on her ruling only in the white firefighter cases?

Any hypocrisy in that agenda?

1. It's all they've got, basically. And Frank Ricci is, on the face of it, an attractive witness.
This guy's history has just started to come out, about how litigious against his former employers (all municipal entities) he has been. He wasn't just sitting there and was "discriminated against" out of the clear blue sky.

I hope the Dems get to bring up some of his background, but I honestly don't know how they're going to do it in the context of the hearing...

Good stuff. I wish we had known this before. Ricci should have been pulled off his pedestal a LONG time ago...

9. You would think Rethugs would hate him because he was sue-happy.
Don't they hate that type of thing?

11. Oh, noooo. That never seems to happen, does it?
This is why we have to play hardball with these bastards ALL THE TIME. Obama should just go in there and clean their clocks with his legislative agenda. I'm sick of trying to play nice with repukes. They have no intention of cooperating and most of them are batshit crazies whose political beliefs are medeival. Screw 'em all!

5. Sotomayer will easily be confirmed but the Repukes have to do their part to save face
Of course they're doing it in a manner that will cause Latino voters (what's left) to flee from their flock.

8. Reason is not the point-- this is political theater, and...
the Republicans are setting the stage for the next Supreme Court battle. Bringing Ricci in to whine is as silly as bringing in retired baseball players, but it gets them TV time and everyone has a good time while the rest of the country has a WTF moment.

The correct answer is that every lawyer I've heard talk about it says Sotomayor's decision was correct under the law at the time. The Supremes did not overule her decision, but changed the law when they reversed.

That, of course, is entirely irrelevant when the point is simply to extend the hearings and mock the process.
