Posey's birther bill gets four more co-sponsors
Oh boy, the wingnut is strong in these folks. Dave Weigel reports that Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL), (in)famous for his birther bill requiring documentation that a candidate for President was born in the U.S., has picked up four more co-sponsors, all Republicans (of course). They are:

John R. Carter (TX-31)
John Culberson (TX-07)
Randy Neugebauer (TX-19)
John Campbell (CA-48)

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (VA-06) had already signed on last month.

Posey says those Congressmen came to him to co-sponsor the bill, that it wasn't him begging them to do so. And then he launched into an invective against Rachel Maddow.

You may recall that Colbert used the "F" word to describe on national TV a relationship my grandmother, bless her heart, deceased grandmother, must have had with an alligator to come up with the likes of me. Olbermann named me the Worst Person in the World and angry woman Rachel Maddow has just trashed me on every show, and asked me to come on her show. You know, I won't do it cause she's got a lousy, low rated show, and I don't want to give her the ratings, quite frankly. I'd love to go on and debate her and set the record straight.

Now, most of these people sit in VERY Republican districts where you probably have a significant chunk of the population that actually believe Obama was not really born here. Per SSP's presidential vote by CD, a whopping 72% of Neugebauer's district voted for McCain, making it the 9th MOST Republican district in the country, in terms of the vote share Obama got. So forget about defeating Neugebauer at the polls with his co-sponsorship, he might gain support from his constituents for doing this. Sad, but true.

2. I have a tiny question.
"... requiring documentation that a candidate for President was born in the U.S."

Isn't that already required? I mean, you can't just say you were, right?

4. Increidble. I live literally a few feet north of his district.
I drive by his office on the way to work. :puke:

8. Yep. Written into the Constitution I believe.
This will die in committee--it'll never see a floor vote, and I guarantee you that as bad as some Dems in the House are, even they aren't so stupid they can't see through this.

5. I wish there was some way to require proof that candidates
for elective office of any sort had common sense.

Republicans seem to be singularly lacking in this most basic element.

Of course, if they had any common sense, they would probably not be Republicans.

6. What a funny bill.
Since it will validate Obama, and make the birthers even more marginalized...

Bring it on!

7. Coburn said he will probably support it, if it reaches the Senate
Coburn Endorses Birther Bill

By Eric Kleefeld - June 19, 2009, 5:02PM

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) has now signed up with the Birther cause -- the people who think Barack Obama isn't a natural-born citizen and should be required to produce a birth certificate (which he already did, anyway) -- World Net Daily reports.

Coburn has now voiced his support for a bill offered by Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL) and five House co-sponsors so far. "The bill requires any federal candidates' campaign committee filing with the Federal Election Commission to produce a copy of the candidate's birth certificate," wrote Coburn. "If the bill makes it to the Senate, I will likely support it."

Coburn also endorsed a similar bill in the Oklahoma legislature: "I hope the Oklahoma State Legislature will give serious consideration to this bill and I hope more states will reform their ballot access laws to ensure federal candidates must affirmatively prove their eligibility."

10. The irony is that for the bill to be in effect, that President Obama is the one
who would sign it. Wouldn't that put their heads in a tailspin?

12. Aside from the fact that Hawaii confirmed it has his birth cert. (IOW, he was born there) ...
... do these idiots really think the FBI, CIA, Treasury Dept. (Secret Service) wouldn't have thoroughly vetted Obama back when he became a serious candidate? What must they think of the departments that are charged with protecting us from foreign and domestic enemies?

Ridiculous. Wasting the public's time and money on CRAP.
