Iran blames US for intolerable meddling

"Five days into the vast and sometimes violent street demonstrations over Friday's contested presidential election, Iran blamed the United States for "intolerable" interference in its domestic affairs.

President Barack Obama had specifically said he was avoiding being seen as meddling, saying it was "not productive, given the history of US-Iranian relations."

The protests are turning into an outlet for the myriad frustrations of Iranians, beyond rejecting the election result. State news services reported that the Revolutionary Guards had acted against "deviant news sites" backed by the US, Britain, and Canada that were encouraging unrest"

Now perhaps the GOP will understand why the President wasn't rushing to give any statements or to interject himself in this situation. Thankfully he has been very measured with his words and the record will show that unlike with the GOP.

3. The worst the .gov did in this whole crisis was to ask Twitter to delay maintenance.
The U.S. is deliberately taking a hands-off policy with regards to today's Iraninan revolution, and for good reason, given the history with Mossadiq and the Shah.

As for we, the American People, standing separately from the government, we're standing with the Iranian people against totalitarian thugs!

8. To authoritarian thugs, any dissent, no matter how small, is intolerable.
That's why I'm running my Iran-free-speech proxy...

For those with technical skills:

You too can make a free-speech proxy and help Iranians bypass the censors!

11. I am a little confused. No one in the Gov asked for a delay.
Seriously, someone show me where the American government asked for twitter to delay this.

The Iran Government would like people to believe this. Show me ONE link that proves the American government asked Twitter to not shut down.

It is my opinion that Twitter Delayed shutdown based upon something called grassroots -- it is pretty popular on twitter.

16. Here's one link to a news article...
http://blog.seattlepi.com/thebigblog/archives/171381.asp?from=blog_last3

Essentially, a staffer at the State Department called Twitter the other day when they found out they were taking their site down for planned maintenance right in the middle of the Iran crisis. They (along with many Twitterers) convinced Twitter to postpone their maintenance to 1:30AM Tehran time, so as to cause the least problems for Iranians trying to communicate and bring the world news via Twitter.

19. What Iranian government official alllegedly made that charge? Links please
The write of the article failed to provide any specifics such as names and quotes!

So I have to wonder if the article is part of some disinformation campaign conducted by neocons.

See if you can find a credible link with more information regarding this allegation.

I read just the opposite on a Iran government funded news website where they quoted President Obama. Their headline was: " Obama opposed to meddling in Iran's affairs"

Press TV is an English language international television news channel which is funded by the Iranian government, based in Tehran and broadcast in English on a round-the-clock schedule. It has 26 international correspondents and more than 500 staff around the world.

Obama opposed to meddling in Iran's affairs
June 16. 2009

US President Barack Obama has expressed 'deep concern' about the post-election unrest in Iran but warned that meddling in Iran's internal affairs would backfire. "I have said before that I have deep concerns about the election. I think that the world has deep concerns about the election," AFP quoted Obama as saying.

"You have seen in Iran some initial reaction from the Supreme Leader that indicates he understands the Iranian people had deep concerns about the election." Obama said after meeting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in Washington on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Obama stated that the US does not want to interfere in Iran's internal affairs.

“It is not productive, given the history of US-Iranian relations, to be seen as meddling in Iranian elections,” he added.

"When I see violence directed at peaceful protestors, when I see peaceful dissent being suppressed -- wherever that takes place -- it is a concern to me and it is a concern to the American people,” the US president stated.

“That is not how governments should interact with their people,” Obama said. “My hope is that the Iranian people will make the right steps in order for them to be able to express their voices, to express their aspirations,” he added.
