"The committee is close to settling on a plan that would create state-run marketplaces where private health-insurance companies would compete to offer coverage. To answer demands from Democrats including Mr. Obama that a public plan be offered as well, the committee is heavily favoring nonprofit cooperatives that would be governed by their members and would compete inside the new insurance exchanges, people familiar with the matter said."

Now, it's definitely possible the WSJ is skewing their report of the actual discussion in favor of what they (and their subscribers) want, in an attempt to influence the public debate and the final decision. 4. Congressional Budget Office says reform could cost up to 100 billion a year -that's nothing compared

to what we spend on defense & war. Of course the headlines say 1 trillion, but that's spread over 10 years, and the headlines are designed to skew the discussion because they mention 1 trillion but not that it's spread over 10 years. (plus, the CBO was evaluating one plan - the Kenneday plan, the details of which hasn't been completely worked out.

The CBO acknowledges that and says "But the CBO also cautioned that "those figures do not represent a formal or complete cost estimate for the draft legislation."
