Obama invokes Jesus more than Bush
But I thought he was a Muslin???

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090609/pl_politico/23510

He’s done it while talking about abortion and the Middle East, even the economy. The references serve at once as an affirmation of his faith and a rebuke against a rumor that persists for some to this day.

As president, Barack Obama has mentioned Jesus Christ in a number of high-profile public speeches — something his predecessor George W. Bush rarely did in such settings, even though Bush’s Christian faith was at the core of his political identity.

At the University of Notre Dame on May 17, Obama talked about the good works he’d seen done by Christian community groups in Chicago. “I found myself drawn — not just to work with the church but to be in the church,” Obama said. “It was through this service that I was brought to Christ.”

And a month before that, Obama mentioned Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount at Georgetown University to make the case for his economic policies. Obama retold the story of two men, one who built his house on a pile of sand and the other who built his on a rock: “We cannot rebuild this economy on the same pile of sand,” Obama said. “We must build our house upon a rock.”

1. Correction:
Bush’s Christian 'faith' was at the core of his political facade.

Just another part of the fake image that was manufactured to make him acceptable to the GOP base.

3. Yep, Bush was/is a CINO...
I think he's all woo woo in the head about it, but it's clear where his heart is... or that empty void where a human heart belongs.

2. I heard Hannity complain about his "Muslim" upbringing...
And his "fanatic church" attendance for 20 years... all in one breath... I kid you not... all in one stinking, foul breath.

Idiots. They only appeal to their kind apparently, because the rest of us don't seem to have a problem seeing the stupidity here.

15. Since polls showed a large minority still thought he was a Muslim
during general election, and the kind of folks who'd mistrust him for it I imagine,if any president/candidate had a reason to invoke Jesus it would be him.

It actually fits better on him than it did on bush. I don't go to any church but I know what Jesus said and taught and I use to wonder about bush and his ilk and what the right meant about being Christian. Did they have another version of the bible. Did they ask "What would Jesus do or say" and then think he's want them to do the opposite?
I always figured they said Jesus but it was his old testament God they liked with all the abomination and revenge stuff, not Jesus the Christ.
Jesus was all about love one another and caring for those who needed the care and 'judge not' stuff. Do they get the parable about "whatever you do to the least of my brethren"
Those who feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, give shelter to a stranger a stranger, care for the sick and visit the prisoner go to his right at the end, those that refuse go to his left...
There are different outcomes. To those at his right
Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty....

to those on his left
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Now things like that should make an impression if you are all about being Christian. Stories like the Good Samaritan, things like the sermon on the mount.
There were gay people then...did Jesus just forget to mention them?

The only group he was really rough on (besides those who ignored the needy in parables) were the Pharisees...for being hypocrites, acting all good and fine and wanting honor but being wretches inside, doing things like devouring there homes of widows, going across waters to make wars and so on. He did all the "Woe unto the" stuff to them and called them names and asked how they could avoid damnation.

But bush and right wing seem to admire the 'pharisees' and so disrespect the least of our brethren...and exclude rather than include.

I am going further than I need hear...but the hypocrisy of it bugged me but even more perplexed me. How is it even possible that 'Christian values' are nothing about what Jesus the Christ (man or myth) valued?

8. It's kind of like the Wizard of Oz
What he thought was the voice of God (the Wizard) was really Cheney behind the curtain -- or Rummie send him those briefings with Bible verses taken out of context designed to fuel his unsophisticated understanding of scripture.

when talking about all religions.
