17. That's not true...
they also enjoy increasing the wealth transfer to those already at the top. That makes them very happy indeed.

9. timed perfectly, imo
The repubs are geared up to make an issue out of the firefighters' case, no matter which way it goes (although the betting is that the appeals court decision supported by Sotomayor is reversed). The latest that decision will come down is the end of June (assuming that the court recesses before July 4 weekend). So whatever "news" that decision creates will have had a chance to die down by the time the hearing start a couple of weeks later, but there is still time to get it done before the August recess.

Well played.

13. If Ricci is a done deal, they could release it right away, couldn't they?
Why couldn't they do it next Monday? That would give us 4 weeks breathing room...

28. they could if its done.
I was wondering whether the Chief, who controls the decision as to when an opinion is released, was going to hold it as a favor to his repub buddies.

My guess is that its still being worked on and will come out fairly late in the term.

10. Now comes the rush on Ricci, right?
Guessing that Ricci case will get pushed to coincide somehow? Dreading when that case will drop ... the pundits will go even more nuts than usual!

30. the court's summer recess starts at the end of June. Ricci will come out before July 13
no matter what. If anything, Roberts might try to delay it coming out until the last day so it will be relatively fresh when the hearings start two weeks later. But basically, Leahy has checkmated them. Its going to be two-week old (at least) news when the hearing starts

31. Even Joe Scarborough is making fun of the No Go GOP! He wondered today
on Morning RNC-Joe why are the Repugs making such a big deal about the July 13th when they will lose anyway and Sotomayor is essentially Justice Sotomayor. Joe says 90 votes for Sotomayor.

14. Chuck Grassley is FURIOUS! He says Sotomayor did a bad job
filling out her questionnaire. He says that it is incomplete. He is mad with Leahy for scheduling it so soon. Too bad Chuck, life is a bitch!

26. Reference was to G. Gordon Liddy's recent remark that he hoped she
wouldn't be attending any SC conferences while she was menstruating...

I know,it's beyond belief, but Liddy is so far gone it ain't funny...

29. Yes, what CTyankee said. I also had in mind Newt Gingrich's
comment from years ago:

'If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections.... Males are biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes.'

It seems Republicans have issues with women and menstruation -- particularly if they are referring to periods as "infections."
