And I predict if/when it does, it will result in the immediate termination of North Korea as we know it today. :(

2. With what fucking Army, Airforce, and Navy?
The ones that are bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq thanks to the Bush Administration?

We have one option with N.Korea. Nukes. After that, we really can't do too much.

The correct headline is Kim is begging China to kick his ass.

4. Army may be stretched. But you severely underestimate the remaining power of air force and navy
not to mention the many thousands of troops stationed at the DMZ along N. Korea/S. Korea border.

Yeah, China better get their asses in gear before we have to. If China says anything we'll just tell them A)we're not buying any more of their crap so they're all out of work and B)we're not paying the debt until they straighten up and clean up their own back yard.

Yes, I'm kind of over the top, but at the same time there are many leverage points that NEED to be pushed NOW while this mother fucker is still in the escalation phase of trying to make each outrage worse than the last.

North Korea is not Iraq, it is not Afghanistan.

These fuckers have been preparing and fantasizing for a US invasion since a ceasefire was declared in the 1950s.

Within minutes of us firing one missile, North Korea will have leveled every city in South Korea with short range missiles and Artillery.

Our war planning involves the slaughter by the N.Koreans of every US Service man serving on the 38th.

I had a friend who served there 20 years ago. They were essentially told if the North ever invades fight as hard as you can than kill yourself.

the last time and they told them that if war broke out 100,000 N.Koreans will be coming across the border.

If you can't escape south, fight as long as you can and save a bullet for yourself because being captured will result in brutal torture and death.

71. Bingo!
China has ALWAYS been the answer to the N. Korea problem. If China hadn't gotten involved in the 50's, there would be no N. Korea. MacArthur just about had them wrapped up when he got to close the Chinese border and.....

China has been subsidizing N. Korea to prevent starvation of the masses and to stem the illegal immigration of N. Koreans to China. If N. Korea starts, technically resumes, the war, then it is imperative to bring China in on the US side. Seeing as we owe them a lot of money, if they want it back, it shouldn't be that difficult to get them to see things from the US perspective.

No country in Europe wants an armed conflict with anyone. The only country in the middle east with any military capabilities are Israel and to a lesser extent Egypt.

Israel involved in any armed conflict enrages the Arab world. Shia Sunni doesn't matter.

And North Korea has played this game with every new administration. It is a good game, and they are very good at it. They usually win. By the way, 'let's get rid of you' would very likely include the slaughter of millions of Koreans on both sides of the border.

most of the N. Koreans are just desperate to get out of this long slow starvation they've been enduring for decades.

What you describe is only the absolute worst case scenario and not a probable one.

Kim is still in power, but the sharp rhetoric and militaristic, belligerent actions do seem to fit with power plays among the hard liners regarding succession.

39. You forget that these people have been fed 50 years of propaganda
Edited on Mon Jun-01-09 09:18 AM by AllentownJake
That the imperialist capitalist Americans are coming to rape the women and eat the children, and after their done raping the women, eating the women too. You might say this is extreme but this is pretty much what they are told on a daily basis from childhood.

If you think that nobody believes that type of propaganda, what was it 30 years after WWII till the last Japanese soldier decided to surrender?

They have no outside source of information. Everything is totally controlled. This is what they are taught from the time they are Children and since it has been over 50 years since the last Westerners were in the country without state security escorting them, I can only imagine what the people believe.

and hell if that doesn't make them believe it, just show them some real pictures from Abu Gharib.

40. True, but I think the difference between them and the
Imperial Japanese is that North Koreans are living in absolute poverty and squalor. Information may be very tightly controlled but I think they do have some idea of what life is like on the "outside", in South Korea and China. That's why there's tens of thousands of refugees and defectors and well established "escape routes." I'd compare it more to an Iron Curtain situation.

Ultimately, no one really knows how the people would react to an American occupation (more likely a South Korean occupation), but hope we don't have to find out.

41. You understand how North Korean Society is set up
The military is not living in abject poverty. They don't have American style lifestyles but they certainly don't live in abject poverty.

The people who would be shooting at an American occupying force aren't going to be the farmers. In Iraq the people building IEDs and training suicide bombers weren't simple farmers either.

They are being told they are the luckiest, happiest people on earth, and have NO basis for comparison. They can only assume that S Korea is much worse off than they are. They get no TV, no radio, no foreign news that doesn't come from the government - so HOW do they 'have some idea of what life is like on the outside'?

54. I recall interviews with Russians following the Soviet breakup.

They all attributed the breakup to Detante. Prior to Nixon lowering the Iron Curtain -- Churchill's invention; not theirs -- the people largely believed that as bad as their lives were, the lives in capitalist countries must be truly horrendous. When they learned better, support for Communism began to crumble. The only reason it held out as long as it did was the twin rally 'round the flag response to the war in Afghanistan and the saber rattling of Ronald Reagan.

So far, looks like the U.S. is waiting for China and Japan to step up to the plate and deal with it, since they are more in danger than the U.S., being in the neighborhood and all.

N. Korea was warned about years ago, before we went into Iraq. An "expert" I saw on Charlie Rose in the lead-up to the Iraq War was saying that Iran and N. Korea were more dangerous than Iraq. Smart guy, huh?

I forget the guy's name. He's famous. Some sort of professor who has written books, etc. Jewish name, maybe. It'll come to me later. (I'd blame my bad memory on my age, but I'm afraid I've always been this way!)

55. EXCUSE THE ever living fuck out of me, but i have in-laws in Seoul
and massive numbers of N korean conventional weapons are aimed directly at them. The crazy frizzy haired little psychopathic tyrant (or whomever is actually in charge over there today) will *absolutely* launch these weapons if Obama "punches him in the mouth".

Please do not use my family as pawns in your dick-length contest.

I'm very glad it's Obama who's in charge and not you.

Getting pissed and attacking countries hasn't exactly worked out to well lately. It won't here, either.

64. He's a nut but going to war with North Korea on some macho excuse would be insane
The United States can't fight and win a war in Korea without a draft and huge and quick military buildup in troops and weapons that would cost a few trillion dollars in additional war appropriations within just a few years.

Hey .... that just might jumpstart the economy!

Only problem is tens of thousands of U.S. troops would die, hundreds of thousands of Koreans would die and a few nukes might be used to destroy Seoul and U.S./South Korean forces along the DMZ.

Can the Obama administration pursue and win wars in four nations at the same time?

No.

But thanks for the very patriotic rah, rah our dick is bigger, we're number one post.
