Has Obama spoken out about Prop 8 yet?
I'm sorry, but this could be the breaking point for me. Obama has crapped upon the gay community so far, either delaying or going back on every single one of his promises. If he doesn't condemn that decision, and call for DOMA to be repealed immediately, I've had it.

And for those of you who are going to bitch about "poutrage" and make "door hit you in the ass" comments or anything else snarky, a pre-emptive fuck you. This is a basic human right we are talking about and I'm not going to tolerate a leader, even a President, of our party who either defends what's been done, or is too chickenshit to condemn it.

1. Then you probably will have reached your breaking point...
Considering he claimed it be a state thing, he's unlikely to comment on it. (Though I agree with you 100%.)

3. I personally hope he keeps his mouth shut.
I don't agree with him on this issue at ALL and if he can't support equal rights then he should just STFU about the issue and let the rest of us move forward without him.

4. He opposed 8 last year when it was on the ballot
And his State Department will be providing equal benefits for gay and lesbian American diplomats.

15. If they were doing that, it was illegal and should have been reported to somebody.
Obama however was a little preoccupied running for President.

8. We probably won't get one.
He'll cop out and say it's a state thing. Obama is a coward when it comes to this issue. At least he has full rights in all 50 states. :eyes:

9. I doubt that he's going to say much if anything, but I have a prediction
The most I can hope for is him saying that Proposition 8 is a state issue, and that the matter will ultimately have to be resolved at the federal level.

10. Calling it a "state issue" is a cop-out
We have an entire Federal government system that will not recognize same-sex marriages from states where they are now completely legal. We also have a Federal DOMA that needs to be officially repealed.

Those are issues that a progressive President needs to show some positive leadership on.

12. He nominated a SCOTUS nominee who's getting a thumbs-up by gay legal activists (quotes and link -->)
Sotomayor has also not ruled on any cases involving gay civil rights, but gay legal activists described her positively:

Long-time gay legal activist Paula Ettelbrick said she met Sotomayor in about 1991 when they both served on then-New York Governor Mario Cuomo's advisory committee on fighting bias.

"Nobody wanted to talk to the queer person at that time," said Ettelbrick, who represented Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. "She was the only one who made a point to come over and introduce herself. She was totally interested and supportive."

"From everything I know, Judge Sotomayor is an outstanding choice - fair and aware, open and judicious," said Evan Wolfson, head of the national Freedom to Marry organization.
"I believe she has the demonstrated commitment to principles of equal protection and inclusion that defines a good nominee to the Supreme Court. In choosing Judge Sotomayor, the first Latino candidate for the Supreme Court, President Obama has made a strong and appealing nomination that should and will receive the supportof those committed to equality for lesbians and gay men."

16. yes, months ago
He said he was against gay marriage, but that he thought the states should decide the issue.

The state decided the issue, and in the direction he personally supports.

18. Then why should any gay American bother to vote for him again?
In 2004 I pointed out that in Kerry, we had an anti-gay-marriage, pro-DADT, pro-war, pro-PATRIOT-Act candidate. On the issues that really counted as far as I was concerned, he was no better than Bush.

Now we've got a pro-DADT, anti-gay-marriage Democrat. On my civil rights issues, why would I support him over anyone else?

Hmmm... people sure seem confident that we must pick between the "lesser of two evils."
