Gallup: More Americans “Pro-Life” Than “Pro-Choice” for First Time
PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, finds 51% of Americans calling themselves "pro-life" on the issue of abortion and 42% "pro-choice." This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.

I'm actually surprised by this. But I'm sure Repukes will trumpet this during Supreme Court hearings.

1. FiveThirtyEight doesn't buy it.

Although two recent surveys -- the Pew poll conducted last month and an NBC/WSJ poll conducted in September -- indicated smaller-than-usual margins for the legal option, this is countered by a large amount of data from earlier in 2008 which indicated support for legal abortion at about its typical levels in the mid-50's. While it's possible that public opinion has shifted more dramatically on this issue since sometime late last year, it seems highly unlikely. Polls don't move without reasons, and abortion hasn't been particularly in the news of late. Who knows -- maybe Baby Trig won over a few hearts and minds -- but odds are the Pew result is a mild outlier.

3. The choices are misleading - it should be "pro-choice" and "anti-choice"
Then we see what the polls say. Plus, I would like a poll that only included women, not men being "pro-choice" about their "pro-life" stance on other individuals.

4. why hasn't someone mentioned the fact that Sarah Palin exercised her right to choose
when she was pregnant with Trigg? (Trip?) (Trok?)

She blatantly told a recent Right to Life gathering (a month ago) that she "agonized" over the decision of whether to have an abortion (!) and "instead I chose life".......

She should be the poster child for Planned Parenthood!

:puke:
