WTF did I do to get on one of Newtie the Grinch's lists?
I was surprised to get a solicitation from him in the mail. Naturally, I returned it with copies of my favorite anti-repuke cartoons enclosed for the edification of whoever opened it. I'm sure it brightened up their boring day.

A couple of days ago I got a call from someone who said she was phonebanking for Gingrich. I was so startled I couldn't think of any Oh, snap! level replies, so I just said "You've got to be kidding!" She sez, very calmly, "No, I'm serious." I said I thought he was a sociopathic shitstain, at which point she hung up.

This puzzles me. Either their voter ID process is really screwed up, or they are doing random number dialing in order to generate hits. If the latter, other people categorized as strong Dems would have gotten a call. Anyone else?

1. you probably fit the profile
karl rove had this thing about profiling people based on where they live, what they drive, etc. data mining isn't exactly scientific.

4. I live in a comparatively low income area
Our voter turnout is not ususally very high (2008 an exception), but Democrats average about 70% of the vote of those who do show up. IOW, not where you'd expect Repubs to be trolling for support.

2. All you have to do is, next time someone calls, tell them that for each

call you get, you will donate $10 (or whatever amount you care to make up) to the Democratic National Committee. Tell them then that the DLC thanks them for this first donation. (You can include a note to the same effect in the first returned mailing.)

Trust me, you won't hear from them again.

3. That's a good idea, but I'm imagining the telemarketer dealing with that info ...
... a telemarketer who was probably some apolitical, unemployed person who is happy to have a job and to make calls all day long for anyone (who cares who), and who doesn't want to rock the boat by telling his/her boss that someone said they're going to donate to the DNC.

I try to remember that the person on the other end of the phone probably doesn't give a crap about what they're saying into the phone -- they're just happy to have a paycheck so they can feed their kids.

So, I just say, "Thanks, but I'm not intersted. Good-bye." and hang up.

5. My son signed me up for RNC stuff as a joke. *sigh*
When they called I told them it had been a joke and that I wouldn't vote for a republican as long as I lived, if he/she was the last person on earth, or even if he was Jesus Christ himself.

They never called or wrote again. Gee. Wonder why.
