RFK Jr. supports Gillibrand
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. got together yesterday at the South Street Seaport in Manhattan to attract attention to a proposal to provide funding for environmental education programs in schools.
Media coverage was scant, it's a big city after all, but NY 1 did a short piece that included RFK Jr. voicing strong support for our new Senator.

Which I thought was remarkable, and diaryable, given all the controversy over his cousin Caroline's "candidacy" for the Senate appointment.

Gillibrand and RFK Jr. did an event with students from the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School to publicize her proposal to provide $100 million over five years for environmental education programs that are endangered as local school districts across the country deal with difficult budgets.
Here's Gillibrand's take on the issue, from her website:

During these tough economic times, we need to continue investing in environmental education to prepare our students for the new green economy. The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School is a model for environmental education. Their focus and dedication needs to be replicated here in New York and throughout the country.

1. Hmm. That'll help her keep her seat.

2. Ugh. This makes sense though if you do the math.
Leaving the family ties out, RFK Jr. supported Clinton in the primary and Clintonites torpedoed Caroline Kennedy's bid for the seat.

We've got too many conservative Dems in Congress as it is.

Go Carolyn Maloney!
