The GOP can't sustain their "populism" with the aforementioned frights. They have no choice (from their POV) but to make Romney their candidate for Greed.

8. If the economy is not markedly better, it will probably be Romney...

...in which case Obama could be in for a fight. If the economy has show improvement, the dow is above, say, 10,500 and unemployment is back down to 6% or so, the republicans could nominate God and I don't think it would matter. Of course, the Variable X in all of this is if, heaven forbid, we have another 9/11 style attack. Then, it's anyones guess how it would go.
