Specter has chosen sides now - set to vote against "Card Check"
Specter to Vote Against "Card Check"

Congress Daily reports that Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) will vote against a cloture motion to limit debate on the Employee Free Choice Act. "Specter's opposition could doom the legislation because to pass the bill organized labor needs 60 votes to overcome a Republican filibuster."

It also likely means Specter has chosen to make his re-election run as a Republican and not as an independent. He had already ruled out switching parties.

1. He's already been branded an enemy of the conservatives. He's really screwed himself now.

2. He's finished in Pennsylvania, then

The only way he has survived thus far is with massive union support.

If he sticks it to the unions on this fundamental issue, he will never win a statewide seat in Pennsylvania, which is already well past "trended" blue.

Every Democrat should be out there DEMANDING an "up-or-down" vote on the EFCA, and calling out Specter as the roadblock to a vote on the merits. Every union in Pennsylvania should commence making the flyers as soon as Specter dogs the bill.

7. It looked as if he could have locked up some certain
Democratic support for 2010, but he must have decided if he doesn't do this, he will not be able to prevail against a primary challenge. Oh well, we'll just have to beat him or the GOP winger that beats him in the primary.
