Really worth checking out the links to the recovery sites. Alaska's shows Palin the hypocrite accepting stimulus money.

1. Typical that SC and MS are among the last
We don't like those fancy city adding machines where I come from.

2. Perhaps they, along with SD and ND, don't expect to recover?

6. ND is in the black and SD is not far in debt. Hey, it's cold up there with blizzards ...
and then potential floods. I'm willing to cut them some slack. Perhaps someone can call Big Ed (Ed Schultz) today and drop a dime on ND legislators? :-)

4. They're Yankee adding machines, to boot.
Here in South Carolina, they're still fighting the Civil War. They don't want to be told what to do by some Yankee neeeeeegroooo. A librulcommiesocialist one, at that. In my part of the state (Gresham Barrett's district...Ugh!!!), most people think Sanford is doing the right thing. They're all outraged about "government control" over businesses, yet I don't hear a peep out of them regarding the $5 billion that have disappeared into the private contractor black hole at the Savannah River Site over the past decade. One story in the local fishwrap, and that was the end of it. I guess the problem interfered too much with their "Private Sector: Good, Government" BAAAAD" mentality.

5. In defense of this Southern attitude:
It has far, far less to do with the Civil War and far, far more to do with Northerners coming down here to take advantage of our lower tax rates and then trying to tell us what to do.

I live in Tennessee and worked for a newspaper for years in a tourist destination. Was the county commission backwards? Perhaps. Were the trucked-in "Yankee" tourists-moved-to-town rude, abrasive and assholish. You bet your sweet bippy.

9. Oh, for sure!
It's the same in my town. It is a big destination for retirees and horse people (or as I call them, the "horseshit"). The thing is, you can't always tell them apart from the old money locals and goodl old boys. They're just as rude, abrasive and assholish as the transplants. I don't know who is worse, the "carpetbaggers" or the good old boys.

10. Sounds like Gatlinburg
Oddly, the same kind of attitude about tourists acting like shitheels prevails in Wisconsin Dells, amongst the citizenry there.

7. Not to mention the even bigger black hole in the Pentagon
But that's OK, because it keeps us safe from the brown people.
