Republicans can't criticize the President's gaffe without looking like hypocrites...
...because behind closed doors, they make jokes about this sort of thing all the time--and much worse. It's called "being un-PC." For them to criticize a Democratic President for being insensitive would be like us criticizing the Republicans for being "bleeding-hearts"--it just rings hollow.

They'll try to score some political points, but it likely won't work because they generally aren't good at defending the rights and dignity of a minority group. I'm pretty sure most of the teeth-gnashing is coming from our side.

(BTW, it's interesting that everyone from South Park to the Onion to the Daily Show to the movie "There's Something About Mary," not to mention countless comedians, have mocked the mentally challenged much more vividly--and with very little impunity, it seems. But the moment a President merely alludes to the Special Olympics, he gets jumped on? I know we have a higher standard for our public officials, but come on.)

1. I turned on college radio today
and some kid was saying that because Don Imus was fired, Obama should resign. And that the Democratic party is "controlling" what he (the kid!) says on radio every day. Yeah, I'm sure they're really concerned about that, you little twerp. Meanwhile, even the person who he found to call in (who allegedly did special olympics and said that he was offended that Obama does not care about the "little people") said, thankfully, that he didn't think Obama should be "fired". I was going to call in to him and describe advertisers vs electorate, but I figured that it wouldn't be worth it.

2. When has that stopped them?
CNN was polling on this earlier this morning. I didn't bother to stay tuned to read the comments. I can only imagine what the RW Obama haters (who love Rush's mean spirited attacks on the poor, helpless and powerless) had to say.

They didn't screech with outrage, either, when autistic kids were being mocked.

PARTY UBER ALLES is all that matters to the rightwingnuttery.
