Legislating Religious Beliefs.
OK. So we should be legislating religious beliefs, according to some of these congress people who are against stem cell research. And gay marriage. So, fine. It's not just the christian right who should be able to have their beliefs pushed off on everyone else, then. After all, there are religions in this country who have their own beliefs on things. Like the Jehovah's Witness. They don't believe in blood transfusion or organ transplants. So maybe we should just outlaw these things. They go against the morals of this religious group. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, lets not forget Scientology, who doesn't believe in drug therapy for illnesses. I know there are other religious groups who feel this way about pharmaceuticals. So we should outlaw them too. Boy, now I'm feeling better about this religious legislation stuff, how about you? Anyone else have any great ideas for religious beliefs we could legislate?? I mean, it's not like our pilgrim settlers and our forefathers didn't leave their respective countries to escape religious persecution or anything. It's not like our forefathers wanted a separation of church and state to protect the rights of every citizen of this new country. They didn't risk their lives for that, did they.

1. Old Order Amish
How about Old Order Amish? Please correct me if I am wrong, but don't they eschew electricity and automobiles and the like because they aren't mentioned in the Bible? Should we require everyone to follow this religious belief? (For the record, I don't think the Amish would make others do as they do.)

3. Why are the Amish here then?
After all, the New world isn't mentioned in the Bible either.

5. i see what you are saying, but the amish don't even claim to be
part of our system, do they? they don't tell others what to do. if you don't want to live by their rules, then you leave their group. but i see where you are going with that.

we all Amish (horse buggies)!
OTOH, we'd eat tastier vegetables, pastries, and meats; we'd feel more connected to our fellows; and, in general, we would be more self-sufficient.

Amish rock!

2. Nobody can work on Saturday, from the Jews.
Holy day is Friday, from the Moslems. And if we legislate Sunday as a day of rest too, we are down to a four-day work week. Do the Hindus or Budists have another day we can take off? Anyone can step up here.

Who was slain by god because he refused to share all his wealth with the group?

How about that? We can start with CEOs.

On Edit:
Yep, there he is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ananias_and_Sapphira
