Rush made a mistake at CPAC which is getting covered on MSNBC...
Edited on Mon Mar-02-09 01:03 PM by jenmito
He said, "The Preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth: That we're all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness." It's really from the Declaration of Independence. Tamron Hall and Ari Melber were just discussing it. Ari pointed out that Rush doesn't know what he's talking about. Tamron ended the segment by saying, "And I DID say over the weekend we talked a lot about the First Lady wearing short sleeves and if Rush was a man we'd be talking a lot about that unbuttoned shirt with the hair coming out the top. Contessa said, 'Ewww!'" "If Rush was a man..." I think she meant "If Rush was a woman..."

2. Do you expect a college dropout to get his facts straight?
I bet Rush thinks the Declaration of Independence is IN the Constitution.

19. Hey -
Little lighter touch there, please.
My mother's a HS dropout, and she could likely teach you whatever you think you know about Native American culture & history. It's intellectual curiosity that does it - she's always been a voracious reader.
This is why Little Lord Pissypants was a dumbshit despite an MBA - he was intellectually lazy and incurious - as contrasted with the SMFITR we've now elected.

many things.

7. Like Palin saying "if the Pledge of Allegiance was good enough for the Founding Fathers.."
Edited on Mon Mar-02-09 01:17 PM by DFW
She was going on about how the "under God" phrase should be left it the Pledge, and let
go with that phrase about if the Pledge was good enough as is for the Founding Fathers
of our country, then it was good enough for her.

Just one problem: the Pledge was written in 1892 by a Baptist Minister who was also a socialist
(species now extinct), and he specifically wrote that he would tolerate no changes to his Pledge.
Ignoring this, during the McCarthy era of the early 1950s, the Knight of Columbus pushed through
the "under God" phrase, and at the same time had "E Pluribus Unum" eliminated as our national
motto in favor of "in God we trust," which first appeared on some of our money in 1864.

But Republicans have been very quick of late to use made-up "facts" to support their arguments,
figuring (often, unfortunately, correctly) that their lies would appear on Page One, and the
corrections on page 25, if at all. If it was National Hate Radio, no corrections necessary: God
forgives them automatically.

"Among these are Life, Liberty and The Pusuit of Happiness..."

Man shows his ignorance everyday...guess that 3 weeks in college he did had nothing to do w/American Government...;)

Come to think of it...I had learned about the DoI and The Constitution, as well as basic Civics in the 4th grade...guess he missed that year as well...:D

10. I know. Nearly EVERY speaker mentioned "freedom" as part of their
objections to Obama, as if he wants to take away our freedom. (At first I didn't write that part, but those were HIS words. They should've pointed that out (as should've I in my OP). Thanks for pointing it out! :hi:

22. Where did the "pursuit of happiness" part become part of it
At one point, the document did not say "pursuit of happiness" but "the right to own property". I've always been curious at what point when the boys were saying "hey, what the hell should we write to that gasbag king over there", that "property" got kicked out and "happiness" was in. Are we sure we have the right one on file in D.C.???? For some reason "happiness" seems so hippy for those dudes.

Repugs quoting the founding documents are like fundies quoting, err, misquoting the Bible. Like the fundie pastor who met my first beagle. I said, "This is Spartacus." He replied, "Oh, a biblical name!".
