Kyl calls Obama’s inaugural address ‘low-brow.’
In his inauguration speech yesterday, President Obama declared, “On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.” Apparently, however, Obama’s speech led to one more “petty grievance.” Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl told Arizona radio station KTAR that he thought Obama’s speech was “low-brow“:

“His speech was not high-brow, it was more low-brow and a bit surprising in that regard,” said the Senate Minority Whip. <…>

He took exception to Obama’s call for “an end to petty grievances” and a political truce in Washington.

“If the idea is we have to avoid controversy by getting in line behind his proposals, that’s not patriotism,” Kyl said. “If he is asking that everybody agree with him and thereby have a truce, that’s not going to work.”

11. Tansy calls Jon Kyl a worthless piece of shit.
I don't usually stoop this low, but one has to stoop this low to meet Kyl on his own level.

I'm quite sure Kyl (who deserves none of the dignity that goes with the title "Senator" or even "Mister") fully expected all the Dems to line up and follow HIS feckless leader without a whimper of protest. Ha ha, now the shoe is on the other foot, ain't it, Jonny boy?

What a wanker.

13. "Low Brow"?
1. Compared to *, THAT is low brow?
2. Don't mistake plain speaking for less than eloquence.
3. I didn't pick up on any cheap shots, profanity, mistakes in grammar or poor word choice.
4. BTW, Kyl would have had Plan B ready if the President had put in a $50 word here and there: the speech was "High Brow" and he was talking over the heads of ordinary Americans.

As usual, a Republican showing his ass, whining like a little baby. Obama does not want everyone to shut up and fall in line; he wants us to come together and compromise. Like adults.

it like it is and stuck it to bush and his toadies in Congress.

kyl was obviously hoping for a pollyanna speech that didn't hold his ilk accountable.

We know republicans don't like to be held accountable and if there's a hint of it..they go into major victim mode.

Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 12:59 PM by Kristi1696
...and do what's best for US. 'Cause, if you hadn't noticed (and you probably haven't), we're kind of in a bad way right now. Obama wasn't asking you to agree with every idea he puts forth. He was asking you to be honest about what you agree with, offer constructive criticism for what you don't, and forget the political posturing for a little while.

But why am I not surprised that you didn't seem to get that? :eyes:

26. All I know is that if I were a Republican
(and thank god I'm not) I would have developed a slight case of diarrhea looking out into that crowd yesterday. Millions and millions of people smiling, crying, and cheering because the Bush residency was over. Watching Bush leave -- the first president ever to be literally booed out of town.

I've seen a lot of inaugurations -- I was dragged to a neighbor's house in 1953 to see Ike sworn in on their TV, because we didn't have one -- and I've not seen anything like yesterday. It brought tears to my eyes just to see the pictures of that mass of people on the Mall.

28. So, Kyl was accusing Obama of making it easy enough for the Bush worshippers to understand?
from the 1977 copy of the Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary:

high-brow - a person who possesses or has pretensions to superior learning or culture (sounds like Dennis Miller, who freeptards wouldn't understand)

low-brow - an uncultivated person (freeptard)

Kyl would be talking about how "high-and-mighty" and "above all the average joes" if Obama had talked way over their heads ...
