No MORE "What Kerry needs to do" threads please!
It's an utter waste of time. Kerry is only the democratic candidate, not a comedian, not a talk show host, not karl rove. He is a true war hero with great ideas about America & holds a high moral and ethical standard.
Anyone who believes that the Bush attacks have not been enabled & propogated by the corrupt media organizations is fooling themselves.
Therefore, we are constantly coming up short on a response. This gives the impression that our side is not standing up or fighting.

WHICH IS UNTRUE. MANY MANY PEOPLE ARE MOBILIZED.

Kerry has come very far against overwhelming odds and unending smear tactics, so let's give the guy a break. How about pooling the energy and give advice to family members who maybe voting for the Shrub.

my ideas for US not Kerry:

1. Everyone who can, make sure that everyone in YOUR OWN/ YOUR FRIENDS FAMILIES are voting for KERRY.

2. Every morning, every member, should send a quick email to the cable news shows/networks expressing our opinion of their bias.

3. DONATE. DONATE. DONATE.

4. Talk to young people. Explain that BUSH=DRAFT : KERRY=NODRAFT.

5. Get informed about 9/11 : find the booker Elementary video (thememoryhole.org) and watch it. Then show it to a friend.

6. Read up about Kerry & learn how to counter attack on the 87 billion, the iraq resolution, the 1971 kerry speech on vietnam.. and Bushco's leadup to Iraq.

7. DONATE. DONATE. DONATE.

8. If you aren't working full-time, go and register people to vote.
www.rockthevote.com ; http://www.declareyourself.com/

9. STOP WATCHING CHRIS MATTHEWS and expecting him to suddenly "turn" into a democrat. It's not gonna happen.

10. Be supportive, get Kerry Elected, bitch about him once he's in Office.

WE HAVE NO CHOICE this election.
DUBYA is not the elected president, nor does he deserve to become one.
HE said "JUDGE ME ON MY RECORD" - LET's do just that.

1. Cheers, we need to worry about what we can do to help Kerry get through
to people, not constantly critisize him because he doesnt. Bush has his image machine. Kerry doesnt have one, we need to become Kerry's image machine. But instead, we spend all our time tearing him down.

6. YES!
Not to insult you, but the fact that your mind works like mine may be scary, especially for you. Just kidding, but anyway we are not professional campaigners, we are mostly just a bunch of people who are not satisfied with the direction of this country and are certain it's time for a change. I do work full time but am volunteering bon a limited basis anyway. They will work around your schedule, but they (we) do need volunteers. Good post and I agree with your tag line. Please, no more!

11. lol .. maybe it's scary for rethugs
but I'm glad we believe the same thing. I'm very concerned, but I'm also not someone who let's other people do my work for me. Kerry is trying to help us & WE should be trying to help him.

I'm a new yorker & work fulltime for myself, but I have also registered almost 10 people, donated as much as I possibly could & still do out of every check I get, I have gotten my family & my friends to register & they are ALL (except for 1 brother) to vote.

7. Let's get the word out on what he DOES instead
all the threads about what Kerry actually SAYS sink like stones. All the ones complaining about him float forever.

No wonder he's down in the polls, people on DU won't even keep his words on top. :(

12. Yep, because the left refuses to be his echo chamber.
Instead we choose to tear him down for not being liberal enough.

He needs an echo chamber, Bush has an echo chamber bigger than the grand canyon. That is why the end result is a Bush message that gets heard and a Kerry message that never does.

8. Couldn't agree more
Every single Democrat needs to shut up about "Kerry should do this" and "Kerry should do that". Until Kerry personally calls your house and asks you to join his staff, keep your gripes to yourself.

He wasn't my first choice. He wasn't my second. But now he is my ONLY choice and I will defend him until the cows come home.

Bitching and moaning about what should have been done is ammunition to every stupid Republican who lurks here. We are a team. A united team and we must win, so be quite and take one for the team.

This won't stop the kibbitzing of course, but perhaps it will help provide a glimpse of an alternate universe for those who think you get Bush out of office by bitching at your TV.

13. bring up the draft??
Hah - not a good idea it will just make you look silly

Bush is NOT pushing a draft - nor could he make one happen. In fact the only 2 bills before Congress that would reinstate the draft have been proposed by Democrats.

Talking about a draft is just scare mongering and alarmist bullshit - which is the game Dems should not be playing.

16. have you spoken to any military guys?
ask them what they think about the draft and if a secret backdoor draft is not already in place. Ask them how thin the troops are streched. Find out how much money they give contractors & how much our troops get paid. DO your research before you come and tell me that a draft doesn't look inevitable if Bush's policies are maintained.

AND I know that Dems brought it up, BUT do you know WHY they introduced the bill? and what it entails? It is a wake-up call for everyone who is too complacent about this issue.

If I'm silly, fine... but I still stand by my post.

17. Bush's war will require a draft
That's simple common sense. We're already way over extended with the guard. That's Bush's fault. There's no good way out of Iraq. That's Bush's fault. If Bush is in for another 4 years, he'll have to have a draft because he has no way to get out of Iraq and people are not joining up to go over there in droves.

Bush IS pushing a draft, with every choice he's made.

Kerry, on the other hand, has a goal of getting the troops home within his first term.

Bush is a bully, and he'll be using American kids' blood to try to shove the world around. He's proved that in the last 4 years.

That's 5/7 more years. Where are they getting all of those bodies if re-enlistment is down?

Hardly alarmist. Remember, once */>8S win, they no longer have to answer to voters.

27. I am highly offended by this.
Its not misinformation and its not "BS". The facts are, BUSH CAN NOT INITIATE A DRAFT. Thats a fact. Which means that Bush does NOT = draft. Which is what the initial poster indicated.
Now the fact that Bush has spread our troops thin, acted irresponsibly with our resources, and if he continues down the same track the only way to get out of it is to start a draft or to pull out of positions may be true... but saying that "Bush = draft, Kerry doesnt" will not strike the swing voter as believable - b/c they will see Dems propsed one, and they wont care if it was meant to be a "wake up call" or not.
Work with the issues that are true - not the alarmist 3 word "easy" answer...

As for the attacks of misinformation and BS and how YOU feel you are better informed than I - I think it is silly to hide behind your computer in a shrowd of anonymity claiming you are better informed than anyone else - I dont know you, maybe you are - but on the other hand, you dont know me, and I could be much more informed than you.

I have been reading this board for a long time - i just recently joined. I wanted to participate as an equal not worry about a pissing match of who knows more - b/c in life there will ALWAYS be someone better, richer, more informed, better educated.

I would appreciate some respect and not immediately be labeled as a "troll" because I assure you, what I do OFFLINE would disuade you of that idea.

They are about what Top Dems should do to help Kerry. A lot of DUs seem to think Top Dems are simply not carrying their weight.

21. No, the threads are about people wanting to win.
People want to win, so they want to start feeling like they can win. So they want to start feeling like Kerry is making some headway. They want to feel like he is getting his message out. But thanks to the right wing echo chamber, his message doesnt get out. So they blame Kerry for not running a good campaign. Or they blame the democrats for not doing enough.

And they are wrong. The democrats are fighting for thier lives. They are working very hard and talking alot. Kerry is, day in and day out addressing the issues and attacking Bush hard. They just dont have the ability to get their messsage magnified and disseminated by the media.

28. Example of what is wrong.
Last night Nightline made the same misleading charge. "Kerry said he would vote for the war again knowing there were no WMDs" Actually Kerry never voted for the war once. Podesta is then interviewed and DOESN'T correct the record. The Dems keep letting lies and distortions stand. Leaving Kerry to keep on "explaining". The Dems MUST go after this deliberately distorting media.

26. Thank you!
What such posts fail to take into account is that no matter WHAT Kerry does, Republicans have an enormous advantage for two reasons: 1) when you have no scruples and no shame, you can lie with impunity, knowing that by the time the lie is refuted, it's already a paradigm; 2)a breathtakingly compliant and cooperative media that consistently and eagerly advances the Republican lies.

The striking difference in coverage between the Swift Boat liars and the National Guard memos is just the latest example. We and the press are now beating up on Kerry for not responding quickly enough, but let's roll back the clock. Suppose Kerry had come out hitting hard on Day One after the Swift Boat attack began. Think the story would have gone away? Hell now. The press would have still covered the story as relentlessly and breathlessly as they did - but they would have BLAMED Kerry for making them do it.

"He gave us no choice. Why would he make such a big deal of this story? Why did he elevate the Swift Boat Veterans by dignifying their accusations with a response. This story would have faded away and died in a couple of days, but by responding, Kerry turned it into a huge story. Shame on him - this is all his fault."

And how has the National Guard story suddenly turned into a non-stop debate about the validity of the memos - memos that merely supported a very small part of the story, a part that has overwhelming independent evidence supporting it? Because the press is focusing on it. The Dems are doing everything they can to refocus attention, but the press is obsessed with tranforming the Bush/Cheney talking points into their lead story every night.

We need to get behind Kerry, write letters, call, and do everything else we can to give him the support he needs and to get his message out. Lecturing him about what he should be doing different is no help at all.
