Oscar De La Renta: Hillary Is "Very Prudish" About Showing Skin
Designer Oscar de la Renta says Hillary Clinton, whom he's dressing for the Inaugural ball, is "very prudish about the type of clothes she likes to wear." It's a constant battle!

Or some other rude comments about her figure. Do you blame her? I don't.

9. She's a sixty year old Senator not a twenty year old bikini model..
Who cares what OdlR says anyways?

Clothing should be practical and I get annoyed with all the pretension and snobbery of these fashion types especially in bad economic times.

I watched that move "The Devil Wears Prada" and had that been my boss I'd have pushed her out a window inside a week.

27. I would have made the obvious retort when they tried to justify their existance
by comparing her clothes to more mainstream versions of what they released recently with a "She would have bought something...no matter what you designed."

The fashion industry really is freaking useless...but hell, I guess someone needs to keep up the idea that image is everything.

She can wear a dress with a jacket over it to make her feel more comfortable. Something like this maybe?
I think Hillary is a very beautiful woman along with Jill and Michelle. She is also intelligent (which is more important then looks). To me she looks better now in her 60's then when she had her multiple hairstyles and different styles of clothes when she was First Lady.

On Monday Barbara Walters sat down with designer Oscar de la Renta for her weekly Sirius XM show "Here's Barbara." He described what Hillary Clinton will wear to Tuesday's swearing-in ceremony ("the most beautiful royal blue") and inaugural balls ("a beautiful pink and gray embroidered with silver and gold"), and detailed his ongoing struggle to get her to show a little skin. Barbara also points out that Clinton has a "nice bosom."

See an excerpt below.

BARBARA WALTERS: Now, you're very close to Hillary Clinton?

OSCAR DE LA RENTA: Of course I am. I love Hillary.

BARBARA WALTERS: Do you say to her, Hillary I don't like that on you, or that's not good and you should do this not that?

OSCAR DE LA RENTA: I try to advise her the best I can, you know, we always have a big, huge fight about - you know, Hillary, in a sense, is sort of very prudish about the type of clothes she likes to wear and you know from the waist up she really looks great.

BARBARA WALTERS: She's really tiny. She has a small waist and nice bosom.

BARBARA WALTERS: She's really tiny. She has a small waist and nice bosom.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA: She feels very uncomfortable about wearing revealing kind of clothes and so we are always fighting about the neckline. I do remember one time, we were at a party at the Metropolitan Museum and she was wearing, for the first time, something very, very open and then all of sudden she arrived with a big, huge shawl over her shoulder. And I kept pulling the shawl down and she kept pulling it up because she felt uncomfortable about showing her shoulders.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/16/oscar-de-la-renta-describ_n_158530.html

What's with Barbara and her comments about Hillary's body? She did the same some months ago when she remarked that she looked better in pants because she was bottom heavy.

:eyes:

Here's the Metropolitan Museum gala gown that de la Renta is referring to:

A little more skin, with Oprah at the Emmys in 2005.

53. "Prudish"?
What an odd word to use. Perhaps Senator Clinton simply prefers to be as comfortable as possible, given what passes for women's fashion. Personally, I wouldn't want to to be worried about having to bend down and pick up a napkin or something during a highly publicized, excessively photographed political event.

Prudent is a better word.

61. Do you REALLY want to see the Sec of State out there flashing her ta-tas?
I'm not saying that government service should render you sexless, but Oscar needs to remember the fact that there are a lot of cultures where a woman showing ANY skin could result in a death penalty. If Hil is "modest" with her attire I'd say it just makes her that much more suited to her new appointment because she is gonna have to interact comfortably with those cultures.

On a personal note I have seen other designers offer the comment that one of the toughest jobs they have is to cover up the upper body of older women that fancy themselves as femme fatales...

Just sayin...
