I understand that NBC is saying that Mr. Lauer will "clarify" his comments tomorrow. Who says the media don't learn? The Bush tactic of telling a bald-faced lie one day to impugn someone's credibility then issuing a "clarification" the next day has clearly impressed itself on NBC.

That Lauer is going to "clarify" his comments? There's another thread running around, link below, in which a number of folks have called NBC to complain, and they're being told that Matt Lauer was being "sarcastic" or "joking" and that he would clarify his comments tomorrow.

That the media don't learn? Well, I see them continually kissing up to the Bush administration, and even in spite of that, the Bushistas keep treating them badly. For example, there is a story today that a White House bathroom that the press has been using for the last quarter century has been closed.

That NBC has adopted the Bushista tactic of sliming one day, only to clarify the next, guaranteeing that the slime makes page 1 but the retraction makes page D14? Seems self-evident from the above-referenced other thread.
