We will have 2 primaries, one for Governor, the other for Senate and while our favorite son sits in the White House, you will witness Democratic (and for the matter Republican) in fighting that is not for the faint of heart.

Do other other Illinois DUers agree with me?

2. Oh hell, politics is a blood sport in Illinois.
We eat our young.

As for predictions, I look for the Governor fight on the Dem side to boil down to Hynes -V- Madigan and I look for the Senate fight to be another free for all with a zillion candidates to start with and maybe a couple clear front runners by Labor Day. That Senate seat will go to a Chicago (read as a Daley approved) candidate.

On the GOP side, the last time I talked to anyone his comment was "We don't HAVE anybody that is viable..." You obviously can't take that to the bank, but the IL GOP is still not as strong as they would like to be. What we must NEVER forget, however, is that the IL GOP is in the shape they are because of Republican Governor George Ryan and the Republican party's attempts to protect him when he was under investigation...

3. If Alexi runs for an upgrade I am in his camp for either seat. . .
. . .but I'm eager to see what the rest of both fields look like and if any other Congressional seats are put into play. I have a friend who is trying hard to get to DC but when I told him about 2010 he started reconsidering. . .LOL

7. My 11 year old LOVES Alexi.
He spent a lot of time talking to her at a fund-raising brunch and she just thinks he is the neatest thing since sliced bread. Don't get me wrong--she was an "Obama Girl" from the moment she met him, but she really thought Alexi was something special.

If Alexi runs make sure Material Girl gets a t-shirt and some walk lit because she would most likely do the parades for him no matter who her Dad and Mom are supporting. If I'm not excommunicated from the Dem party by then I may work him myself!

4. I just moved to Illinois in 2007
And had decided I'd start paying more attention to Illinois politics once Obama got elected. Have to say, it's been a real eye opener.

9. I'm in Kane County -- Hastert's old district
I knew this was Republican country, so I had watched the Republican primary debates shortly after we moved here to see what Republican we'd get after Hastert. I was totally convinced Oberweis was batshit crazy and was dumbfounded when he won the Republican primary. Thank God Foster beat him -- first Democrat elected here in decades, I understand. I worked a bit on his campaign so got a chance to meet him. He's a really good guy, IMO.

Thanks for the welcome. I actually grew up around here but have been gone for 30+ years. The first Mayor Daley was still around last time I lived in Illinois and WLS was a decent rock station. Sigh.
