31. I love seeing these pictures but at the same time worry for their safety
The media attention on Barack and his family is tremendous which is awesome but it also seems like I have seen and read way too many details about his secret Service team, code names, daily locations and routes just in mainstream media. It's scary that so much information is out there that could potentially be used to hurt our President and his family. I really hope there's a lot more protection around Barack and his family that NO ONE but the them knows about.

On another note, yeah I agree that it's gonna be hard for the girls to enter into this fish bowl life, but from all accounts I've seen or heard or read about their upbringing Michelle and Barack have raised their girls to be strong and capable of dealing with anything. I believe they will do everything they can to ensure their kids have as normal a life as possible. In Fact it seems to be a top priority for Michelle.

I wish them all good luck.

3. I am glad that they let these pictures be taken and I'd like them to be the last.
No more pics of the girls on the way to school or to their friend's house or to grandma's house...

Please lets give them lots and lots and lots of privacy. I will pray continuously for this.

33. What "cue the media in"?
They would have left for school at what time, around 8 am? For the pictures to be taken, the photogapher had to be invited into their hotel room--or somebody they knew already in the room was taking the pictures, and probably not surreptitiously.

I doubt there had just been a photo op.

If they didn't want the pictures taken, there's an easy way to 'cue the media in': "Excuse me, photographer. Please wait outside." Even better: "No, you can't come in."

Or, "Jane, what are you doing taking pictures? Stop it."

4. Please don't take this the wrong way but I was almost ashamed to look at the pictures.
I want the girls to have as normal a life as they can and being in a fish tank is going to be hard. I guess they will get used to it but I just hope they live most of their young lives in peace and happiness.

Blessings sent to them and their parents.

13. Have you seen the floor plan of the better suites.....
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 10:28 AM by Clio the Leo
... in that hotel they are HUGE.

I've stayed in some hotel suites in my day that were so nice I didn't want to go home. Bigger AND better than my apartment lol. I would imagine the Hay Adams is as nice if not nicer than those.

22. It's not the Motel 6, you know....

It is more like a large furnished apartment... which is what the White House amounts to anyway.

at Blair House, which is traditional for the president-elect. Another shot take to try to screw Obama.

9. They are going to have to get used to the media attention
Next Christmas we will be seeing dolls with their likenesses, video games, popular songs will praise them, etc. We are in the post internet generation.

12. I believe they've hired someone......
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 10:29 AM by Clio the Leo
.... there was a camera man with him leaving the plane and that camera man followed him BACK into the cabin where he was sitting and NOT to the part of the plan where the press was.

And now these pics. I think it is HIGHLY unlikely that the press pool is allowed to just come up into the family quarters.

I think it's two things ... they are walking the fine line between allowing the public to see limited access to the children. Hopefully giving "us" enough to satiate us (although personally I dont NEED to see any media coverage of the kids, let them have their privacy) without making it so the press is having to stalk them. It may have even been an agreement .... "we'll let you all have a photoop on the first day but then you have to leave them alone."

The point being, I am CONVINCED there is only ONE thing more important to Barack than the welfare of this country and that's the welfare of his family. If he and Michelle think it's ok, it's ok. ;-)

The other aspect is that IF he has hired someone to document his presidency, or even these early days, that is FLIPPIN AWESOME!!!! Talk about full exposure to the public. Of course there are some things the public doesn't need to have immediate knowledge of but even if it's something that will be shown after he's out of office. Just think if there were cameras that followed Kennedy during the Cuban Missle Crisis or Bush after 9/11. The historical impact of that would be priceless.

15. I agree Obama is trying to strike a balance
The public will want to see pics of the kids but hopefully allowing some pics will make the paparazzi (the Obamas are celebrities now) stay away.

26. I think....
you may be right about this...
Barack obviously knows about the curiosity people have about what's going on...

and I think a brief controlled photo opportunity is a reasonable solution.
Totally controlled by O.

The Obama girls will make this country proud. Such sweethearts, I can't imagine anyone would think otherwise.
