Bush Will Not Get Lifetime Protection
President Bush will be the first president not to receive lifetime Secret Service protection, according to McClatchy Newspapers.

Instead, he'll get it for just ten years.

However, Bush will get a Dallas office, staffers, a travel budget, medical coverage and a $196,700 annual pension, all at taxpayers' expense.

1. I wouldn't bet on it... Cheney wasn't supposed to get any...
but, threat assessments have had them reconsidering.... Depending, Bush* might get an extension as well, especially if he doesn't just disappear from the public eye (as anyone with brains would do in his shoes--oh, wait :eyes:)

3. That SOB shouldn't get a thing. Why does he need a travel
budget if he's no longer conducting official business?

Medical coverage and a pension - things being denied to many of us.

11. Bush WILL need the travel budget for trips to The Hague. Or does the inter-
national court pay for prisoners travel? Just wondering

13. Well, if he's going to The Hague I will gladly contribute with my
tax dollars. Otherwise, let them pay their own damn expenses.

4. He probably prefers Blackwater security anyway.
I can't imagine he'd ever allow himself to be in a position for special rendition to the Hague.

5. Regardless, I do think all former presidents do deserve lifetime protection. . .

. . .seriously. Put it this way. Obama will not be entitled to lifetime protection either, however I wouldn't be surprised if both Bush and Obama would be eligible for an extension if there were threats.

9. What He SHOULD Get Is A Room At Gitmo!! But, Of Course He'll Get
ANYTHING HE WANTS, as he has always done!! And Cheney should fare far worse! My wish would be that the new administration would start hearings on WAR CRIMES, but I'm not holding my breath about it. In fact, I don't see it EVER happening!!!

12. Might I suggest a maximum security cell would solve a couple problems?
It would give W that lifetime protection he wants and given that he would need to be convicted to move to a maximum security prison, it would mean that he was finally made to pay for his crimes.

14. Why protect him from the other prisoners? Bet they could help make him
pay for his crimes. Well, at least a start...
