1. If he's convicted as a traitor, I think all SS detail would be discontinued
wouldn't it? I'm sure though he would spend the rest of his life in solitary confinement like Charlie Manson, for his own protection.

6. He's guaranteed it for life
The Secret Service can do shifts in a prison just like anywhere else, I suppose, but - oh my goodness - that is such a funny thought!

4. Note that Bush's SS protection will last for only
10 years after he leaves office, due to a change in the law -- presumably if Dumbya were convicted on one or more felonies, he would lose SS protection. I'm not up on the law in that regard -- would the loss of SS protection be automatic, or contingent on action by the Executive or Congress?

Continuing along the theme of the OP -- if * is convicted of treason & sentenced to death by firing squad, will the SS have to take the bullet?

13. That's not true, that change doesn't effect Bush
Edited on Thu Jan-01-09 09:16 PM by ShadowLiberal
All presidents after Bush, like Obama, will only have SS protection for 10 years after they leave office like you said. But because when Bush first became president presidents got SS protection for life he gets his for life regardless of the changes made when he was in office that he signed into law.

15. No...Clinton signed the law and the 10-year rule applies to Bush
In 1962, Congress authorized the Secret Service (Public Law 89-186)<14> to protect a former president and his spouse during their lifetime, unless they decline protection. In 1997, Congress enacted legislation that limits Secret Service protection for former presidents to ten years after leaving office. Under this new law, individuals who were in office before January 1, 1997 will continue to receive Secret Service protection for their lifetime. Individuals entering office after that time will receive protection for ten years after leaving office. Therefore, former President Bill Clinton will be the last president to receive lifetime protection, and President George W. Bush will be the first to receive protection for only ten years (until 2019).

5. If **** is sent to prison, he'd be kept in Solitary to protect him.
He would have to be alone in order to be safe. Someone would be sure to get to him otherwise. Works for me, he can have all the time he needs to think about his dirty deeds. If he was alone, there would be no need for Secret Service. Just the thought of him and of course, Darth & Rummy sitting in nice, cold cells makes an otherwise cold a boring day worthwhile.

Personally, if there is such a place, I'd rather see them burn in hell.

9. Furthermore, it'd have to be a padded cell.
It'd be what I'd call justice.

7. Not if we render him to another nameless country incognito...
And hold him there indefinitely without representation by lawyers, access to communication home...

8. I wonder if more states use California's system for dealing with such inmates.
In California, inmates that are celebrities, or infamous or otherwise would become targets if they went into general pop, they end up in a protective housing unit.

What would have been ironic is that if Michael Jackson was found guilty of the accusations against him, he likely would have been in the same cell block as Charles Manson.

Chances are an imprisoned Bush would end up in a protective custody unit, possibly with extra facilities installed in the prison for the Secret Service to work alongside the guards.

12. There's about as much chance of Bush even being charged with anything as there is
of Salma Hayek showing up at my door and asking if she can use my shower.
