14. Shoal Creek Hospital, Austin, Tejas, 2001.....
In the weeks before 9/11 (date for reference only) I stopped sleeping altogether, so I got to go to the laugh academy.....for three full weeks.

I finally started sleeping again (with some magic pills) and one morning I walk into the day room and the movie they are watching seems to be upsetting the shit out of everyone.....I thought the special effects were pretty good but didn't understand why they kept playing the same scene over and over again.....


And then the staff made someone turn the telly off and explained they didn't think the attackers were interested in coming after us. Apparently some of my wardmates were concerned about that.

That was a fine hospital, unbelievably better than Veterans facilities and the state run shitholes for sure. I had great insurance for that brief period of time.....


One of these days I'll tell you about the woman who lost her memory from electroshock while I was there....and yes, they still do that....
