We Will No Longer Be Denied!
You can mock us - and you have.

You can alienate us - and you have.

You can tell us to wait - and you have.

You can push discussion of our rights away from the table - and you have.

But you cannot shut us up any longer. We have worked with you to elect a president and we demand our voices be heard. Just as it would be unacceptable to allow a vocal hater of African Americans up on that stage it is unacceptable to allow a hater of the GLBT community to stand up as a symbol of what this president will stand for.

We are tired of words meant to placate us. We are tired of actions meant to suppress us. We do not need your respect or your 'tolerance'. We do not need your pity or your 'advice'.

What you are seeing today is the first wave of an attack that will not end until we win. I will no longer support those who do not support me and there are literally millions more of me. It is time for us to be heard, and we will.

We demand our civil rights and we will no longer be denied them - not by you, not by Rick Warren and not by President Elect Obama.

We've been a solid Democratic voting block for decades. We have donated our time, energy, sweat and earnings to the party - and in return we get Rick Warren as a symbol of what the party thinks of us.

It's time for the rest of the party to work with us. We've done more than our part.

you can't just announce that you won't be denied. you have to continue working and not just posting on message boards- as do all of us who care about marriage equality. And by the way, in case it escaped your notice, Warren wants to deprive women of their civil rights and is also an anti-semite. He doesn't just target gays. He considers me to have engaged in a holocaust because I had an abortion.

OOPS, wrong again, we'll want a two termer after Obama so make that 1/20/21/

Dangit, we'll want another Dem in '20 so make that 1/20/25.

Crap, we'll want yet another two termer so it'll have to wait until 1/20/29...

I think you get the picture. Basically, it seems the Democratic Party wants the votes of the GLBT community, just not that implications fo supporting their rights.

The Greens support full and immediate implementation of gay rights.
Certainly a mass defection from the party to a third party would send a message, and force better concessions in the interests of coalition building.

That's a winning strategy if ever I saw one!

Post angry stuff about the first Democratic president elect in 8 years on a Democratic web site. Persuade the undecided and make "alliances" by demanding equal time for the KKK.

Wow, I'm overwhelmed with the tactical brilliance of this winning strategy!

I'm sure Obama and Nancy and Harry will read your posts on DU and shiver in their boots, until of course they grant your every wish RIGHT NOW along with a free pony.

I've pushed your rights to the background. I guess I single handedly forced the inauguration committee to choose Warren, after of course, I had single handedly won Prop 8 for California from my office in New York.

35. Wrong. There's nothing more insulting than being told to wait for your human rights.
Renounce your legal right to marry the person of your choosing. Renounce your right to see your loved one in the hospital. Renounce your right to have a say in your partner's medical care. Renounce your right to your job when your homophobic boss decides to fire you for being gay. Renounce your right to equal taxation. Renounce your right to equal housing laws.

When you renounce all of that, and much, much more, then you can tell me about what is most insulting.

38. Have I told you to renounce anything?
I have told you to consider the cost of militancy. To consider that hurling yourself Captain-Ahab-style against the white whale of intolerance will only wreck your ship and drown you. To paraphrase Barney Frank, those methods which are the most cathartic, are often the least effective, while those which are the most effective are often the least cathartic. What your doing probably feels really good, and yet it alienates those around you. Some will follow you, sure. But you will make as many enemies as you have allies. And all the while polarization and militancy merely entrenches your opposition all the more, as they will use greater invective and hatred to match you step for step.

I realize that most of this is lost on you at the moment. The adrenaline is pumping, and you are angry. But consider what I'm saying. Outrage does not usually beget results, it begets further outrage, and so forth until there is no dialogue, no debate, no discussion, only rage and acts of violence which achieve nothing but shattered lives and ruined communities. What you are advocating will lead to a further Balkanization of America, which is the last thing we need. Please, channel your justifiable outrage into constructive efforts to gain you the rights you deserve.

50. Dr. King talked to his enemies
He built bridges, he acted and advocated but did not face intolerance with intolerance nor ignorance with ignorance. He realized that equality was not achieved overnight, and matched his activism with a pragmatism and endurance that right not only overcome oppression, but that its inherent moral superiority would allow his movement to outlast the crumbling and bankrupt institutions of segregation and racism. You have the passion, what you lack is the ability to endure.

Just because I say "enough", doesn't mean I, and the rest of us, won't work with others. It means that we won't tolerate being insulted quietly any longer. It means when we support you, you had better support us. It means that we will be heard.

Don't take one post and turn it into something not said. I am not saying "To Hell with the rest of you". I'm saying "To Hell with those who would suppress us". If you are one of those, then to Hell with you. If not, then I think your efforts would be better spent speaking out against the hatred rather than picking at details from my thread.

54. Who is "you"?
Personally, as a straight male, I have done many grassroots efforts for gay/queer/LGBT issues since my uncle died of AIDS in 1986 and since I have a gay brother who has gone through hell and back.

I've gone to gay marches, signed up people supporting gay rights, rode in AIDS bike rides and raised money, canvassed and made phone calls fighting against anti-gay legislation and will continue to do so as long as there is unequal rights in this country.

I don't want any congratulations nor do I want any praise. It's just something I do when I can and something I will continue to do. I don't care if it's hot as hell, cold as hell, rainy as hell or if there is a foot of snow on the ground. I'm out there trying to help... along with my friends and their friends.

I'll be in DC for the inauguration and will turn my back when Warren speaks. I'm sure there will be many actions there in DC. I won't need anyone's direction nor anyone's praise. I'll just do it.

67. Obama's having a good laugh - he tricked us fags.
He got our $ and our votes, and this is what we got in return.

70. Maybe veterans should lose the right to healthcare.
How does that sound? Let's take a basic civil right from a group you relate to and see how you feel about it? Let's see if you 'overact".

71. I don't have any fucking healthcare and when I did in the '70's
Veterans Administration facilities were third world shitholes complete with rats on the wards.

I wasn't talking to the completely fucked up state of human rights and the GLBT population, just the "I can be more outraged and over the top than you can" nature of some of the tirades here.

If you feel that strongly about this, and I think you should, then get your ass on the barricades and riot until your rights are TAKEN from the religious bigots currently holding them hostage.

It might be the only way you get them. Are you willing to sacrifice blood and bone?

After serving a tour I went to the barricades to end the war in Vietnam. I know of what I speak.

72. Where do you think this is heading?
Yes, it's going to come to violence before people stop stealing our rights. This is just the first step in a long march and I'm ready for it.

The question is which side of that barricade will you be on?

73. Look at my previous posts.
My stance on these matters is consistent throughout.

69. When did the Obama administration take the reins, and when did they start
trying to silence GLBT voices with hateful anti-gay legislation?

:wtf:

I must've been out of the room when the inauguration took place and they started implementing anti-GLBT policy.

The fuckin' administration hasn't even taken office yet.

Isn't that what some of you were admonishing others after some of the cabinet picks?

Someone fill me in, becausee I missed when Rick Warren was named to an Obama cabinet post or advisory position.

It's one thing to disapprove of a choice for an Inaugural role, it's another to ascribe a record to the Obama administration that doesn't even exist yet.

74. Yes, the hateful turn that Obama has taken since he took over the White House
and disbanded Congress and installed Jerry Fallwell's dead body as WH Chief of Staff is pretty remarkable, even for a MOOSLEM ter'rist like him

Makes you wonder what we were all thinking.
