3. Some talking head on MSNBC said she is an insider but a tough, no-nonsense type.
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 06:31 PM by DCBob
Not exactly change but she should get the job done. Seems to me Obama is being extremely pragmatic with his appointments especially those related to the economy. I think that's smart... considering.

5. Yeah-I heard some comments but not enough to post. Thanks for that...
and I have no problem with her if that's what they said about her. As long as they find a way to implement HIS ideas.

9. BrentTaylor, as far as her views, its apparent that she is big on regulation.
http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS198153+31-Mar-2008+BW20080331

There are many other articles on google that suggest as much too. She favors heavy, efficient regulation of the financial industry.

Not much to complain about there as far as I'm concerned.

14. This is from a WSJ article
"Out of the gate, Ms. Schapiro faces potential controversy. In 2001 she appointed Mark Madoff, son of disgraced financier Bernard Madoff, to the board of the National Adjudicatory Council, the national committee that reviews initial decisions rendered in Finra disciplinary and membership proceedings."

of this scam. You can't hide, or manage a $50 Billion rip-off for decades by yourself/

Let's get real.

Ms. Schapiro serves on the RAND Corporation's LRN-RAND Center of Corporate Ethics, Law and Governance Advisory Board.

Can somebody inside DU please bump this discussion to the top of the web=page?

What could be more important than discusssing who is going to "clean up" or "shield" Wall Street?

21. This from a NYT article...
Federal investigators have found no evidence so far that members of Bernard L. Madoff’s family helped him carry out what may be the largest financial fraud in history, according to a person briefed on the case. Mr. Madoff’s sons, Andrew and Mark, and his brother, Peter, all occupied senior positions at his firm, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, whose assets were frozen after Mr. Madoff told law enforcement agents on Thursday that he had defrauded investors of up to $50 billion. Although the enormous scale of the fraud prompted widespread questions about whether one person could concoct all the necessary paperwork such a fraud would entail, Mr. Madoff, 70, had insisted that his family was not involved in the Ponzi scheme. He said it was “all his fault,” according to a criminal complaint filed last week.

Furthermore his sons turned him in.

affect long term coaching?
how does she stand on minority affirmitive action on the coaching staffs?
does she understand the university of florida is number one?

i feel better knowing she has sec ties
i would be more worried if she came from a lesser conference
like the acc or the big 10

27. So what's wrong with her? There must be something wrong with her.
Does she part her hair on the wrong side? Wear her skirts too short? Or too long? Has she passed the Rahm/Rick Warren/Vilsack/Salazar test? I expect there will be 100 second guessing threads by evening.

The biggest crooks & manipulators in this Country/World lie within the finacial community. There also some of the smartest.

After Bernard Madoff screwed people out of aprox. $50 Billion & the SEC didn't sniff it, most people get we have a problem.
The question is how hard & effective will Mary Schapiro go after this group?

Her ties to Duke Energy & RAND Corp are not re-assuring, to me.

We need a non-compromised person leading the SEC. Let's make sure Mary Schapiro is the one.
