What exactly is Obama's stance on guns?
Has he ever said anything that would indicate that he would take guns away from gun owners? I've never heard anything and I can't find anything on his website about this. But gun people sure seem to think he's going to take away all their guns.

1. During the "Chesapeake Primary" he supported the DC gun ban.
When he got the nomination, he supported the Supreme Court's striking down the ban.

I have a hard time interpreting the legislativese, so maybe someone can read and tell what the heck it means.

11. I'm not sure if he still supports those things...he seems to have backed away from them.
As a gun owner, I'm far more worried about Biden, who has quite a history as a crusader for new bans.

FWIW, what gun owners are primarily worried about is a new ban on so-called "assault weapons" (by far the most popular civilian rifles in the United States), full-capacity magazines, and ammunition restrictions. The issue is not about hunting guns, DLC cluelessness to the contrary.

4. If he's smart he'll stay away from the issue in his first term as much as possible
It's a huge problem but not as big as other problems.

7. Some of the most powerful democrats in the Senate
have called for that. Feinsten, Schumer come to mind.

from the repubs at the Brady Campaign.

And gun owners (including me) are primarily concerned about new manufacture/sales restrictions, and restrictions on replacement parts, magazines, and ammunition (in other words, H.R.1022 et seq). No one would be stupid enough to actually try gun confiscation in this country, I believe.

8. I believe he is going to bring the troops back and have them search every household
and confiscate all weapons and fishing equipment. Then, with the help of the UN, he's going to ban Christianity and force everyone to attend Muslim reeducation camps while engaging in gay sex.

You got a problem with that?

:) :sarcasm:

12. I think he's a "let the states decide" kind of guy.
Although he does support the Assault weapons ban.

14. That, of course, is what gun owners are primarily worried about.

It was the "assault weapon" fraud, not concern over hunting guns, that made the gun issue such a loser 1994-2004. The vast majority of gun owners (4 out of 5) are nonhunters, and "assault weapons" are the most popular centerfire target rifles and defensive carbines in U.S. homes.
