Caroline Kennedy + 8 Years In The US Senate = 2016 Campaign For POTUS
Think about it:

She's JFK's daughter
She'll have more experience than Obama had in the US senate
She'll most likely be endorsed by her BFF Obama, who at that time might have been one of our greatest presidents with sky high approval ratings.
Women and America in general with think it's time for a female POTUS
She'll be a rockstar and able to raise tons of money
she'll be 59, which is younger than Hillary was this past election
She's so likeable, she'd be a teflon candidate, and attack ads against her would turn voters off
The Kennedy's are still very influential, and she'd have an excellent campaign staff, probably including ex-Obama staffers

If she gets some foreign policy experience by joining the appropriate committees and has some siginificant legislation passed over the next 8 years, she'll have a great shot.

I have no problem with her using her name to run. After all the Kennedys have been some of the great liberals in our time. But having her be appointed would be a mess.

12. Why?
What makes you think she has any presidential qualities? She's not an inspiring speaker. She's not shown any economic or diplomatic savvy one way or the other. She's a fine person, and I could see her knowing enough to be an effective senator given that she comes in with a lot of positive feelings. But being the offspring of a president is clearly, as we have learned painfully, no kind of qualification whatsoever.

16. Neat idea .... we need lots of ideas like this ....
I'm serious ... I'm not sure Caroline is the "next one" ... but we on the left need to be GROOMING a bunch of people for 2016 ... and we need to start now ... we should be looking for some in the southern states too.

We need to be thinking strategically about this ... the more strong folks we prepare, the better we'll be able to shift focus based on what the country needs at a given point in time.

The GOP has been focused on the very far right ... it cost them this time.

We need to not make that mistake ... if we want the Democratic principles we share to move forward, then we need a cast of potentials which represent the total, and then we should pick the one best suited for the times that exist.

But the LAST thing we should do is start casting potential folks aside. THAT makes no sense.

19. I hope Chelsea Clinton considers the House or Senate at some point ...
I'm not pushing "dynasties" ... but in my family ... we had 3 generations of carpenters ... I have friends .. 4 generations of electricians ... the children of actors often become actors ...

Parents and families often, by example (not by DNA), pass knowledge and philosophy to their kids.

Boys have been encouraged to "follow in their father's foot-steps" ...

Why not girls??

But not just the kids of some of our favorite politicians. I liked that Biden's son didn't want to replace him.

17. Not quite as ridiculous as it seems at first glance.
Eight years is an eternity in politics. Eight years ago, Obama was less well known. Right now, I don't think she's anything close to a frontrunner, or even a dark-horse, or even within fifty miles of the racetrack.

But it could happen. And it would be pretty neat if it did.

21. I would prefer to see emerge a new generation of politicians, rather than focusing on ONE person who
has a well known name. I know this is DU talk, without consequence and it is fun to talk, but it should tell us something when people are ready to promote somebody who has 0 experience in politics as a candidate for president just because of her name. It is really not good for this party that we consider that rich candidates and candidate with famous names should hold the power.

Sorry, but it bugs me and I like her a lot.

31. My problem is focusing on her NOW. May be she will become a leader in the Senate if she becomes
Senator. At this point, the only reason to suggest she could run as president is her name. This may be fine in an oligarchy. In a democracy, this is quite questionable (or would you suggest that Amy Kobluchar or Maria Cantwell as candidates?).

Hate to disavow you, but Hillary will have 8 years of experience in the senate come January. Furthermore, if she had won the presidency, she would have been the only person to have served 8 years each at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. Caroline doesn't even come close to that kind of experience. Also, in another 8 years Hillary will have several years of SOS experience under her belt.

53. I don't think we'll see a resurgent dynasty here
Governor Paterson is more likely to appoint someone who's already won an election and who, if not appointed, might challenge Paterson himself for the governorship in 2010 -- namely, the New York Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo.

So, you see, your fears of a dynasty are groundless. :)

And, speaking seriously, my preference for the appointment would be that it go to one of several Members of Congress from New York who've already shown themselves to be top-notch legislators.

Not yours, I mean this one:

George Walker Bush for President!

Think about it:

He's GHWB's son

he'll have more experience than Clinton had being a recognizable name.

he'll most likely be endorsed by his BFF Reagan, who at that time might have been one of our greatest presidents with sky high approval ratings.

Women and America in general with think it's time for a wholesome, Christian POTUS who won't grope you when you turn your back.

He's a millionaire who will be able to raise tons of money from his oil buddies.

He'll be 54, which is younger than Gore was this past election

He's so likeable -- you just want to have a beer with him -- and he'd be a teflon candidate, and attack ads against him would turn voters off because they're sick of impeachment and stuff like that.

The Bushes are still very influential, and he'd have an excellent campaign staff, probably including ex-Obama Bush/Reagan staffers.

If he gets some foreign policy experience by reading comic books and has some siginificant legislation passed over the next 8 years, he'll have a great shot.

care less, though. If Caroline succeeds at anything way more than a half century after her father's death, it will be on her own merits, not bc of her Dad or RFK. And as many people hate Ted as love him That Chappaquidick lie has persisted longer than the accomplishments of the Kennedys, which people who came of age long after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 cannot barely grasp.

Enough of royalty in the United States. Caroline Kennedy mostly exists to glorify her family name, not to better America. If she wants to run for office, let her. But, handing her a Senate seat on a silver platter would be the exact wrong message for the Democratic Party. I know there are hero worshippers out there -- lovers of the Kennedy name, Princess Diana, and so on, but this country was founded to overthrow that reactionary mentality. Appointing Caroline because of her last name is wrong. She would be in Senate to serve the Kennedy legacy, not the people of New York or of the United States. She has been obsessed with her family name for years.
