If you enjoy watching Freeper's heads exploding
Freeper land has been all abuzz about Obama's birth certificate ever since they lost. Well one of the right wing nuts wrote Senator Martinez (R-Florida) about this urgent "issue". They were not happy about his reponse and hilarity ensues.

33. Born in Kenya.....
....but just in case he WAS born in Hawaii, the belief is that his mom lost both her AND Obama's US citizenship when she married Lolo Soetoro.

This is based on a faulty reading of the Nationality Act of 1940, (yes, a woman who married a non-citizen outside of the US would lose her citizenship - if the marriage took place before 1922), and a belief that Nationality laws in Indonesia trump US law for purposes of establishing US clitizenship.

In other words, they don't know what the hell they're talking about.

"Do the voters have exclusive authority to determine other constitutional issues as well? Does he think voters had the right to determine that segregation wasn’t an equal protection violation?"

I doubt it, but they constantly defend the voters' choice in things like Prop 8, despite it being unConstitutional.

That's different though. </sarcasm>

23. This thread is one of the funniest things that I have seen
The whole Obama birth certificate faux issue has been fun to watch. The freepers are true idiots and their rants are all so amusing.

One conservative blogger in Hawaii has speculated that Obama is not doing anything more to put this issue to bed because it is fun watching the idiots waste time on it. This is the same Hawaiin blogger who also found that two major Hawaiin newspapers carried birth announcements for President Elect Obama the week of his birth and that in those days these particular newspapers required a copy of the birth certificate.

I hope that these idiots remember this and do not show up to vote for Martinez in 2010

I mean, what on earth makes them think they're smarter than all the experts in law and government who didn't even question the legitimacy of Obama's candidacy in the first place?

They think they're going to uncover some previously unknown sentence or paragraph in the Constitution that's going to back them up?

Honestly, if they had expended even half as much energy toward really getting to know what a loser Bush was back in 2000, the world would probably be a much better place today.

59. conspiracy theory is the last refuge of the defeated in denial
I hate to say it but I have read any number of post here on DU just as crazy and just as idiotic and just as straight out of wacky-wacky world as those on FR.

Only weeks ago their were a few posters seriously claiming that the financial crisis was fake. There were other posters seriously claiming that Bush was going to cancel the elections and impose martial law.

Of course those post were much more popular here when Bush and the radical right were riding high and there was no visible end in sight to their rein of terror and error.

Now that the forces of progress are prevailing again - the shoe is on the other foot.

These freeper post should serve as a reality check to not go off the deep end when things go badly for us.

Martinez's reply was ludicrous. He should have answered along the lines of "Mr. Obama would have never been able to run in the Primary if he weren't a citizen. The State of Hawaii has confirmed his record of birth. This whole line of questioning is ridiculous."

Instead he went with the dumb answer.

71. I agree...
His response was pretty dumb. It shows his complete ignorance about the eligibility of a President - it is not decided by the voters, it is a combination of the Constitution and legislation that establishes the criteria.

Now, of course, freepers can't accept a valid certificate of live birth, nor confirmation from the state of Hawaii health director (appointed by the republican governor) of the validity of the original certificate. Nor the fact that the issue would have been brought up on numerous occasions in the past if there were any real concerns.

I mean, what can you do? Nothing really, except enjoy the next four (and probably eight) years knowing they will be banging their heads on a brick wall.
