Ariana Huffington was sitting in for Rachel. She asked Lawrence whether Lieberman's poor performance as chairman mattered. O'Donnell said, 'Not in the Senate.' It's not a committee the Senate really cares about; it's filled with junior Senators. He also said the Democrats are 'not in a position to burn one Senator,' as they may need him.
He further said, 'Don't look for job performance to enter into who becomes Senate chairman.' And, that 'Lieberman will owe Obama if he gets to preserve his chairmanship, which is what matters to him the most.' Lieberman can also make it up to Connecticut voters who are quite unhappy with him by 'embracing Barack Obama and the Democratic party.' In other words, Lieberman will 'really owe Barack Obama and the Democrats' for his chairmanship.
