By anyone, I don't mean you, personally, just everyone in general, especially the media. It seems that all we hear about is the economy, Sarah Palin, the economy, how Obama is going to fix the economy, Sarah Palin, the Dow, Sarah Palin, the economy, the Dow, and more of Sarah Palin.

Yes the economy is vital, but Barack Obama isn't the President Elect because of his expertise with the economy, although I think he'll do just fine with that priority and it's something he'll have to tackle. Obama won the Democratic Primaries and is now the President Elect because of his stance on world peace and his commitment to getting our troops out of Iraq in 16 months.

George Bush and Dick Cheney have proven once and for all that war is not the answer.

I am so looking forward to Barack Obama reaching out to all the various countries in the world and bringing the world together through the lost art of diplomacy. When he does that, then everything else should fall into place all that much easier.

What are you most looking forward to with an Obama presidency?

1. What I'm looking forward to most.....
More than anything just having an intelligent, ethical, decent man as president (as a foreigner I'm kind of talking 'President of the World' here!).

2. Watching the news again.
My wife and I started watching TV news again last week after eight years.

Weird. Fun. Starting with Keith and Rachel, of course. And even a little Tweety.

4. his "ability to get people in a room and get things done"
Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 09:45 AM by Clio the Leo
... by his own admission, he doesn't know everything but as he said "I have an uncanny ability to bring people of differing viewpoints together into a room so they can get things done."

And THAT is how he will fix the economy ... and so many other things.

5. In '92 Clinton won with "It's the economy, Stupid" and the way the right
is playing it, this is a repeat of that - but it is not.

They have all those polls showing that the war has dropped to 4th or 5th top priority to voters, but that's like going to someone who is been housebound by snow for 2 months and he has a kitchen fire - what worries you most, the snow or the fire? Of course, the fire - but once the fire is out you are still snowbound.

They want to continue the fantasy that we are all basically united behind the war in Iraq, and that it just isn't that important to people. And when someone is about to lose his house or his job, the ethical issues of war do regress as immediate priorities. But the war is the blizzard that is keeping us trapped even as we deal with the fire. Ten billion a month spent on blowing shit up, when it could be saving peoples' mortgages, shoring up struggling businesses, paying for college grants, just feeding people. And the economic aspect is the least of it - as long as we occupy Iraq we continue to lost the respect and good will of the world and no country has lasted for long when the entire world is united against it.

Ending the war is THE priority - everything else will become easier to deal with when it is over.

7. I'm looking forward to the sense of pride I'll have in my country
after 8 very long, hopeless years.

Restoring democracy won't be easy, fast or cheap but it will be worth the effort.
