Obama Dispatching Aides To Georgia Senate Race
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 07:51 AM by catgirl
Sam Stein at Huffington Post:

Democratic officials confirm that Barack Obama is sending aides to help with the runoff senatorial campaign in Georgia, putting his post-election coattails to an immediate test.

Organizers who worked on behalf of the Illinois Democrat are heading to the Peach State to offer similar assistance to Jim Martin, the Democratic challenger who is facing a second-round contest against incumbent Saxby Chambliss after neither candidate received 50 percent of the initial vote.

The investment by Obama, confirmed by an official working on behalf of the Senate campaign, apparently includes "ground team" members as well as "online specialists and bloggers," and represents one of the earliest tests of the influence he can wield on the political landscape. A Daily Kos diarist first heard about the move from the Martin team.

It remains unclear whether Obama himself will appear in the state. His campaign put limited paid resources into Georgia during the general election, mainly during the waning weeks of the campaign, though Obama's registration efforts there were lauded for making the presidential contest in that state much closer than the historical norm.

1. It would be great if Obama could make the time but I think he
is a bit more busy than those of the Gop star power, "Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin and John McCain will be either making campaign stops on the Georgian's behalf or providing volunteers and aide."

12. Then he loses political capital if Martin loses. Of course
if he does go down to Georgia and Martin loses Obama loses political capital.

He needs to go down.

9. Martin's gonna lose. When I signed up for MoveOn and the Obama campaign and
I was immediately included in the loop and swept up with multiple events and opportunities to participate. I sent Jim Martin a note offering to volunteer FULL TIME until the run-off, I got back invitations to give money. The quality of a staff is so indicative of the election outcome.

13. Your attitude is weak.
My mantra is, "ask not what you can do, JUST DO IT".

Don't waste time standing there looking like an idiot asking, "I want to volunteer, what can I do?". Look around, find a niche and step in fer Chrissakes!

And instead of saying he's "gonna lose" because he has a shitty staff, why don't you recruit some good people to take over, or just step in there yourself???

15. It is so lame to attack Bury the Hatchet for their post
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 03:18 PM by rvablue
any campaign worth it's weight would respond to such a request with a hearty, "Come on down and we'll put you to work!!"
Simply sending back a request for money is lame and sophmoric.
BTH already took the initiative, contacted the campaign and volunteered a lot of man hours...blaming him for what the candidate and his staff are too naive or lazy to take advantage is none of BTH's fault.

14. Somebody please tell Obama that it's not who votes that counts; it's who counts the votes.
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 01:54 PM by Stevepol
In this case, Diebold (now Premier). Martin's chances are somewhere between nil and zed. I suspect the machines will be prgrammed to show a close result, but the result is meaningless when the vote is counted in secret by a private company without verification of any kind.
