Residents of the mainly Kurdish village in southeastern Turkey have sacrificed 44 sheep to celebrate the election of Barack Obama as 44th president of the United States, and smeared the posters with the blood. In overwhelmingly Muslim Turkey, this practice is believed to protect people or property against bad luck.

2. Before everyone gets their undies in a bunch, it is
a very old tradition in the Middle East to sacrifice sheep or goats on auspicious occasions. The meat of the animals is then distributed to the poor.
