6. Actually, Norm the Weasel switched parties in 1996

because he wanted to run for the Senate as a Democrat but the party chose somebody else. So he got pissed off and switched. He ran for Governor as a Republican in 1998 and was beaten by Jesse Ventura. It wasn't until 2002 that the Bushies chose him to run for Wellstone's seat (elbowing out Tim Pawlenty, who was told by Cheney to withdraw his candidacy so Normy could run). Norm has always been a totally unprincipled opportunist. I couldn't stand his ugly little ass even when he was a Democrat.

I lived in Minneapolis at the time and I knew he had been Mayor of St Paul while he was a Democrat, didn't know the exact dates, If Paul Wellstone had not died (or been killed) Norm would not have stood a chance.

Or close, so that's about another 15 votes picked up by Al, IIRC. It's definitely so close now that a hand recount may very, very well tip the outcome to Franken, particularly if new voters turn out to be the ones who may have gotten confused on Election Day, but can have their intentions identified during a manual recount. I'm pretty psyched about this one - - I think both Franken and Begich are eventually going to win.

On edit: there's another thread that is still on the front page or perhaps the second page now, detailing an AP analysis that most of the undervotes are from ballots where people voted for Obama. THAT certainly sounds like pretty good news.

at about 90%. He is a good man with good intentions.

I still think it's interesting that Al is gaining some ground.

I stayed up to 3:30 a.m. on election night watching the race teeter back and forth, and at some point was ready to fall asleep on my keyboard and thought when I went to bed that Al was the winner. Next day...nope.

We need the seat, and I think Al will make a fine senator.
