McCain Camp Feared, Smeared Palin Over Goals
Thursday, November 6, 2008 2:42 PM

By: Jim Meyers

McCain campaign aides have launched a full-scale smear attack on Sarah Palin to blunt criticisms that they bungled a winnable election.

The McCain campaign reportedly was furious over moves by running mate Sarah Palin indicating that she was looking beyond the 2008 race and setting her sights on the White House in four or eight years.

A “civil war” raged between the McCain and Palin camps from mid-September up until McCain’s concession speech on Tuesday night, The New York Times reported.

Already McCain aides have been leaking negative stories about Palin, citing, among other stories, that the Republican National Committee paid $150,000 for clothing and accessories for her and her family.

McCain advisers have claimed she didn’t prepare for a Katie Couric interview, and she refused to take advice from the McCain campaign.

But the Times even had to acknowledge the real reason for the post-election sniping.

“But beyond those episodes may be a greater subtext: anger within the McCain camp that Ms. Palin harbored political ambitions beyond 2008,” Elisabeth Bumiller disclosed in The Times.

2. McCain realized too late that he was just an unfortunate host to an ambitious parasite
that would consume his campaign and then leave his empty husk behind...

7. I can see The Onion article for it now
Not even a week has past since Republican candidate John McCain conceded the presidential race, rumours have been swirling of a new campaign which McCain hoped to clear up today at a hastily gathered press meeting.

"My friends, though the battle was hard fought and lost this week, the war isn't over," McCain said, "I will continue to fight for this nation. And though my opponent Governor Palin is a formidable candidate, we must ask ourselves do we really know who she is?"

8. boy the rethugs are trying desperately to salvage Sarah
she is, without a doubt, the worst poltician i have ever seen in my life. i don't mean this ideologically - i can respect an ideological enemy for their political style - but she was beyond terrible.

Keep this in mind: the McCain campaign certainly made a lot of mistakes that had nothing to do with her. But that has nothing to do with an assessment of her performance. Believe me, if McCain and his staff could have said, with a straight face or even a slightly smirky one, that a big success they had was introducing the world to the new party star they would be jumping all over that as the highlight of their campaign. Even Steve Schmidt, who is going to take the fall for putting her on the ticket, can't defend her. He'd rather take the fall.

She was a terrible hate mongering jerk without even the slightest idea how to run her own rhetoric. She made Jesse Helms look dignified, Dan Quayle look intellectual, and Spiro Agnew classy.

She even made Bush look presidential by comparison. Now THAT is bad.
