Rahm Emanuel on being picked: "I'm fortunate my parents are alive to see..."
It's time to start packing for Rahm Emanuel's family. After "agonizing" about the decision to accept the White House Chief of Staff job in President-Elect Barack Obama's administration, the Illinois Congressman has accepted the position.

...

"I'm fortunate my parents are alive to see I have the choice of staying in Congress or taking this important job," Emanual had said previously.

I'm not trying to nit pick, but that statement about being grateful that his parents are still alive seemed a little insensitive. Of course, I could be be guilty of over thinking... but didn't Obama just lose his last parent-like figure?

3. I was a little surprised by his delay in aceepting.
Not a big deal, but I thought that would have been worked out before it was public. Stories were already starting that Obama's 1st pick might be a rejection.

4. There are threads all over DU where people say almost the same thing
Many DUers have expressed how lucky they feel that their elder parents or grandparents lived long enough to see this amazing election. I don't find it offensive at all.
