Overheard on NPR: why the two crowds were so different
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 09:10 PM by Warren Stupidity
On the drive home, so I haven't a clue what show (talk of the nation?). But some McCain weenie was 'splainin' why the McCain crowd was so totally white while the Obama crowd was every flavor of our great rainbow nation of people. It's because of the demographics. Phoenix is all white was the unstated implication. Well, I thought that was total bullshit when I heard it. But I had to get home and actually google the damn demographics:

As of 2000, the racial makeup of the Phoenix was 71.1% White, 5.1% African American, 2.0% Native American, 2.0% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 16.4% from other races, and 3.3% from two or more races. 34.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.<29> Since the 2000 census, the non-Hispanic White population in Phoenix dropped below 50%, according to William Frey, a demographer with the Brookings Institution.<30>

The awful hate-infected crowd of dead-end fundaloon freepers at the McCain concession speech did not reflect the demographics of phoenix, they represented the demographics of the hate-infected dead-end fundaloon freeper base of the awful Republican Party.

Liars. To the end, with their last dying breath.

2. It wasn't just Phoenix; the McCain/Palin rallies all across the country stood out in sharp contrast
with the Obama/Biden rallies. McCain/Palin rallies were always predominantly white, while Obama/Biden's were always racially diverse, even when they were in the same regions of the country. 4. I'm from Phoenix, and I can explain why the crowd was so white
Two words: The Biltmore.

McStain held his soiree in THE ritziest (=most expensive) hotel in the entire Valley Of The Sun. Plus...what minority in his/her right mind would be for McCain, anyway?

8. I've lived in Arizona for 17 years, 15 in the Phoenix area.
When I first moved here from the D.C. area, I was dumbfounded and dismayed by the dull "whiteness" of it all. It has now become a rather mixed city, particularly in the last 5 years or so.
