GOP = Whig Party?
Could be. I honestly don't see what the "mission" of the Republican Party is at this point.

It's just a group of interest groups, each in search of a vehicle for promoting their separate agendas. It's not impossible that the GOP will break up and be replaced by something else.

1. Nah. The two party system is heavily calcified
If the GOP chooses to go further right and the country chooses not to follow them again and neither turns around for the next decade, they may go into extinction. But it's much more likely that they will moderate themselves in eight years by running someone acceptable to the center of the country.

4. But, historically, some THIRD party becomes the second party
when the second party fades away. Maybe the future is Democrats vs Libertarians, with the Republicans a footnote in the history books.

2. Nah, that would be too Radical, they'll just come up with a new bunch of lies...
...and after focus group testing, roll them out in about 2010.

6. As far as I'm concerned
The only thing that can save the GOP is to go back to a much more fiscal standpoint. They claim we're the socialists, but they want to tell you who you can marry, what you can do with your body and what religion you should serve. Not going to cut it anymore.
