The corporate polls are having their effect: Depress us
Gallup, Time, Newsweek, CBS, ABC--all have Kerry down 6-11 points--and this is what they want us to think. Why? because they want to depress turnout. They want us to think that our guy is going to lose so why not bother to vote? Remember Bush wins if turnout is down. If we get a strong turnout--Kerry wins.

Does anyone really think that Kerry is more than five points down or c'mon 11 points down? No, not even the media if they are honest. So they concoct these polls which interview more Republicans than Dems to get their desired numbers. Newsweek, Time, and Gallup certainly do this. Then they also flaunt the "likely" voter numbers they pull out of their asses--which usually give Bush a bigger lead than if you count registered voters. Even though they have two sets of numbers "likely" voters and "registered" voters they flaunt the likely voters or which ever one gives Bush the bigger edge.

Right now the only polls I'm going to really pay attention to are tracking polls and Rasmussen has shown a consistenly tight race with Bush leading no more than four points since his convention and today pretty much neck and neck. And Zogby.

One convention doesn't turn around a presidential race this quickly. Bush still has a negative job rating and most people think the country is moving in the wrong direction. We have at least three debates ahead (hopefully more) two with Bush and one with Cheney and our guys will make their points and move the people who have been flirting with the republicans rethink their position.

This election is a long way from being finished.

2. yes, and gets people to say "Kerry is behind by __ against this idiot!?!"
these garbage polls serve many uses, but demoralization is HUGE.

but what do those polls know about the Voter Reg I'm doing on campus next week? what does it know about the bumperstickers I see, the truth on the ground?

it remains up to us to defeat BushCo and the Media

3. Campaign Always STARTS after Labor Day; ENDS at Election Day
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 04:42 PM by emulatorloo
For some reason, some would have us believe it ENDS at Labor Day. . .

We have only just begun to fight!

4. you are RIGHT!
we all expected this race to swing like a pendulem... if we all work hard (especially our candidate) we have a fighting chance to send Chimpy back to the Crawford Zoo.

Now is not the time to despair... we must FIGHT the Evildoers and prevail!

6. Suggestion to Kerry Camp: Time to Act like Winners
It's amazing what an optomistic spirit can do for morale. When Kerry makes his zingers, add "And people ARE hearing our message, America WANTS change in the economy, and WE WILL have a change in our relationship with the rest of the world.

I also wish Kerry's commercials ended with him looking positively into the camera, with arms folded, saying "I'm John Kerry, and this is my message."

One of Shrubby's commercials show him on the telephone. As if.

Kerry supporters are afraid to speak up in public. But they ARE out there, and if they could catch a POSITIVE spirit, they might be more willing to speak out.

Just my musings.

8. And here are 6 reasons to be optimistic...maybe we can spread this around
1) Kerry couldn't spend any money on advertising in August.

2) Kerry has proven at least twice to be a strong closer after lagging in the polls.

3) The Swiftboat smear took place in August.

4) The Republican National Convention took place in August.

5) Kerry is shrewd and not afraid to change tactics when something isn't working. He has now hired several hard-hitting strategists.

6) The debates haven't happened yet.

Anyone want to add more?

7. We KNEW that th media was going to do this
use bogus polls to shape public opinion (or if ou didn't, you were naive).

No reason to get depressed about that... Kerry's campaign strategy- now that's another matter.
