Media outlets do their thing to make money. They try to give the most people what they want. When they thought America was center-right, the media drifted to the right. Now, with the ascendancy of Obama, maybe America isn't center-right. So, the publishers and producers will bend to where they think the audience is now.

the very detailed plans carried out by various right wing think tanks and wealthy leaders like Grover Norquist and Richard Mellon Scaife.

"Blinded by the Right" by David Brock is a more fun book from a former right winger about his times within the movement working hard to smear the Clintons and plant right wing stories in major media.

It is not a natural process -- "Gee we are just giving the public what they want." There has been a concerted campaign since the 1980's to move our public discourse to the right.

It is not a GOLLY WE ARE JUST RESPONDING TO THE PUBLIC MOOD.

It has been a coordinated, multi-layered attempt to move the national dialogue to the right.

Part of that has been the CONSOLIDATION OF MEDIA from 50 companies in the 80's to ONLY FIVE conglomerates today, all in right wing hands.
