The USAToday/Gallup poll is huge for creating momentum going into election day ...
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 09:08 PM by Alhena
there are some undecided voters who are like bandwagon fans in sports: things being more or less equal, they'd rather go with the winner. Also, some undecided voters still have doubts about Obama with all the smears that have gone on. I'm sure some of those people will conclude- rightly- that Obama can't be that bad if he has so much support from the American people. Finally, some of the less motivated McCain supporters may see a big poll lead for Obama and decide not to vote at all.

That being the case, it is huge that tomorrow's USA Today will be blaring an 11 point lead for Obama as its "final" poll results going into the election. There are a lot of people who read USA Today who don't follow the political shows like we do: seeing these results in full color in their favorite paper will make Obama's pending victory seem like an unstoppable train.

1. I completely agree.
The only point I would add is that we have NEVER had a presidential election with SO MANY damn polls so often, so I am afraid the Gallup poll will be drowned out by the Next. Big. Poll.

2. And serve as a stinky wet blanket demoralizer for tepid repugs.
Love it!

3. Yes. Good point. This will probably be a front page, above the fold, big headline story.
Could help generate a bandwagon effect.
